This New Zealand winter we finally made it to Mount Hutt a short drive from our base in Christchurch. It was especially fun for the kids as they have never seen snow before. Mount Hutt rises to the west of the Canterbury Plains in the South Island of New Zealand, above the braided upper reaches of the Rakaia River, and 80 kilometres west of Christchurch. It's summit is 2190 metres above sea level.
