Las Vegas is a beautiful oasis in the desert that most people already know a a lot about. It is one of the biggest cities everyone comes to for gambling in the world. When you get off a plane in Las Vegas airport you are immediately greeted by bright lights and don't forget the ringing of the slot machines. The journey from the airport to your chosen hotel has amazing views of “The Strip”. Las Vegas has done a great job of creating a city that offers more than just gambling to its visitors. It attempts to brand itself as the “entertainment capital of the world”, and frankly they are doing a pretty good job of it. There are musicians that take up permanent residency in Vegas ( Britney, Jlo), an incredibly variety of shows to choose from (Cirque du Soleil to Bluesman Group or Absinthe), world class dining options(my personal favourite), phenomenal golf courses, and of course can't forget the endless shopping . I am visiting Las Vegas right now and want to share with you my favourite things to do there. This list is not even close to cover everything you could possibly do on your Vegas vacation, but these are ones that are on my to do list
Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas Sign
Taking a picture at the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign is a a staple in any Vegas vacation. Whether you are here for a bachelor party, work convention, Girls trip, anniversary or just escaping cold winter temperatures this sign on the South end of The Strip is a perfect way to begin your trip.
Visit Foreign Cities
Okay that is a little exaggerated, but most of the casinos are based on a location or theme from somewhere else in the world. The Paris features its own Eiffel tower and really is takes you into the world of of Paris, the Venetian is based off of Venice(my personal favourite), the Luxor is based off of ancient Egypt, Caesar’s Palace is based off classic Rome, and New York New York is well, it puts you in a New York state of mind. Obviously visiting any of these casinos is not a substitute for seeing these places, but I recommend exploring more than just the one you stay especially if it is your first time here.
Freemont Street (Old Vegas)
Freemont Street is where you will find the old l Vegas casinos like the Golden Nugget . Even though it is considered old town there is nothing old about it, it is not run down or left behind. Freemont Street runs straight through most of the big classic casinos, and is a perfect spot to get a drink from an outdoor bar, see some of the most unique street performers in the world, and experience free live music. Most people don't usually make a stop here because it is a little drive form the Strip, but I would definitely recommend making the time to stop here and explore.
Bellagio Fountain and Gardens
As you wander through every casino and hotel you will see tat each has amazing things to see, the water show and botanical gardens at the Bellagio cannot be missed. They are my favourite and always a stop on my trip, no matter how many times I have seen them. The man-made lake in front of the hotel features a dancing water fountain show choreographed to music. The show is different every 15 minutes, and it is truly beautiful. Even though I have seen this so many times it always feels like I am seeing it for the first time.
The High Roller
This gigantic observation/Ferris wheel is fairly new to Las Vegas. It is like the London Eye, but bigger. Surprisingly to me (since I have a hight phobia it really was a fun ride. The pods are big enough to feature whole groups of friends, and even your own bar and bartender if you want.
Pools
There is really no better way to relax and unwind then to lounge by the pool. Las Vegas has so many options you can choose to hit up many parties at the various day clubs or go for a more relaxing environment. You can even visit different pools thought Vegas even though you are not staying at that hotel. One of my favourite pools is at The Cosmopolitan Hotel. I love the atmosphere, the comfy lounge chairs and the view.

Ironically my wife and I will be taking a trip out to Las Vegas in the coming days (Tuesday - Friday) and taking her parents along with us to celebrate her father's retirement. He has never been to Vegas even after living in California for the greater part of 45 years, so I figured now that he has his lump sum retirement check he want's to have a bit of fun :P
