On April 6, 32-year-old Uncle Supachai Thongthip decided to take his AK 47 to visit the local temple in Kong Jiam district in Ubon Ratchathani province. In the temple a concert stage was set up, on which a Thai country music band played its songs.
As reported by the local press, at around 11:30 pm there was a row between two teenage groups. The quarrel got louder very quickly and finally ended up in a fight right in front of the stage. The young people were no longer calm and beat each other in front of the stage. The other peaceful temple visitors got scared of being hurt and fled in all directions.
In the meantime, other young people had appeared in front of the stage and also joined in the fight with one. There were hefty hits on both sides, but neither group wanted to give up or end the fight.
Suddenly 32-year-old Uncle Supachai Thongthip and his AK 47 (also known as AK Gun) appeared in front of the stage. He wore the AK 47 "just next to his body" and walked slowly to the front of the stage, before the teenager still pounding each other and fought.
Mr. Supachai then lifted the weapon upwards as if to fire the weapon. At first it seemed that Mr. Supachai wanted to stand with the weapon in his hand between the young people.
As he raised the AK 47 in front of him, he supported the weapon with one hand and the other hand moved to the trigger. Only then did the teenagers notice the AK 47 and the fight broke apart within seconds. Each of the teenage thugs suddenly got scared in different ways. Obviously, they were afraid of being shot by the uncle's mighty machine (AK 47).
In the meantime, some of the temple visitors had already contacted the local police and asked for help. The local station police chief, Mr. Chanchai Innara, the police jail superintendent of Kong Jiam Township, and other police were very quick to arrest Uncle Suppachai Thongthip, the 22-year-old Katesuwan Bunmee, and the 16-year-old "Mister A".
In a subsequent house search in a house in the district of Kong Jiam, the investigators found next to the AK 47 also another 12 bullets and the bag in which the AK 47 was kept. All suspects were arrested and taken to the police station along with the confiscated evidence.
Mr. Supachai reported that he had carried the AK 47 into the Temple Mass. After he could drive apart the fighters thanks to his AK 47, he had driven back home and hid the AK 47 in the bag, in which she was later also found by the investigators in the raid. According to the investigators, Mr. Supachai had hidden the AK 47 in his house in a hole in his kitchen.
Mr. Supachai and the two other suspects who were found in the house are being prosecuted according to the law on possession of an illegal weapon and accessories, a local police spokesman said. Police colonel Chanchai also reported that Supachai police records revealed that he had not first been noticed by the police and had been seized with illegal weapons and drug use.
