Living In Thailand For Cheap
So, the other day I was searching for places I could live for fairly cheap. Thailand came to mind. I wanted somewhere, where I eventual could live comfortably strictly off of Steem. So today in this post, I'm going to break down the cost of Living in Thailand on a monthly basis. ( this will exclude; cost of plane ticket, visa, and passport.)
So, The first thing I went and did is pull up the Baht to USD converter. I'm interested in Phuket, So I'm going to be looking at the price of living there.
I'm thinking, of staying a month or two months, maybe more. The first thing that popped into my mind was check the ever so friendly... Airbnb.
I did my research and I found a awesome Townhouse for $12/a night with an %11 weekly discount. So with fee's and everything a one month stay equaled $372.. not to shaby. Here are some pictures below!
Now I wanted to see if I could find anything a little cheaper. So I found a place in a little bit better part of town for $11/night and a %10 weekly discount after the fees it came to $342 a month! EVEN BETTER Here are some picture below!
So now That you have to options, you have to be cautious of scams, so READ the REVIEWS! Make sure they are not all submitted at the same date. Make sure there are at least 10 reviews. Make sure the reviews are from real users! It's pretty easy to spot a fake review! Don't get played! Btw both the houses had wifi, so you're covered there :)
Now it's time for food!!!!
Restaurants
Meal, Inexpensive Restaurant 60.00 ฿ = $1.77
Meal for 2 People, Mid-range Restaurant, Three-course 700.00 ฿ = $20.63
McMeal at McDonalds (or Equivalent Combo Meal) 200.00 ฿ = $5.90
Domestic Beer (1 pint draught) 70.00 ฿ = $2.06
Imported Beer (11.2 oz small bottle) 100.00 ฿ = $2.95
Cappuccino (regular) 80.83 ฿ = $2.38
Coke/Pepsi (11.2 oz small bottle) 22.45 ฿ =$0.66
Water (11.2 oz small bottle) 13.65 ฿ = $0.40
Markets
Milk (regular), (1 gallon) 185.96 ฿ =$5.48
Loaf of Fresh White Bread (1 lb) 34.17 ฿ = $1.01
Rice (white), (1 lb) 13.15 ฿ = $0.39
Eggs (12) 48.57 ฿ = $1.43
Local Cheese (1 lb) 357.20 ฿ = $10.53
Chicken Breasts (Boneless, Skinless), (1 lb) 46.12 ฿ = $1.37
Beef Round (1 lb) (or Equivalent Back Leg Red Meat) 149.69 ฿ = $4.41
Apples (1 lb) 40.14 ฿ = $1.18
Banana (1 lb) 20.79 ฿ = $0.61
Oranges (1 lb) 37.80 ฿ = $1.11
Now since we are on a budget, we are going to splurge and spend around 2 dollars on breakfast a day and buy fruits at the supermarket equaling $60 a month. For Lunch and dinner we are going to inexpensive restaurant every day $1.77 x 2 = $3.44 x 30 =$103.20, so food for a month equals roughly $163.20, that's getting three meals in a day. Which I don't often do.
So we are at $505 right now and we are just going to add another $200 for travel and personal expenses, Because I like to drink some beer and i'm going to be buying some haha, So our total is around $705. This is pretty inexpensive to me. I believe one can manage most of that with Steemit and another online job.
Would you ever live in Thailand?
Have you ever been to Thailand?
These prices are just from what I have researched online, I have never been to Phuket, Thailand... yet :)

Wow! Thank you for sharing.
No problem, I've always wanted to go visit Thailand on an extended stay
Awesome post thanks for sharing
No problem, Thank you for taking a look!
It's so hard to live on a budget as I know I'm doing it at the moment Phuket is really expensive never get taxis there they charge 200 baht to go anywhere I stay in Bangkok I don't go out much it's not really living the dream I thought I could do it but crypto is to volatile so I'm going back to my country next month
Yeah it can definitely be hard living on a budget. Have to make sacrifices. And it's never what we imagine. Where is our country if you don't mind me asking?
Uk I have a house there
That place looks pretty legit for 350 bucks a month! This is a well written and great information post. I have never been there but it's at the top of my list with a couple other places. The food pictures look good.
You can really find a lot of awesome deals in foreign countries when looking at Airbnb. Last year when I almost pulled the plug and went to Thailand, I saw a treehouse right next to the beach for $8/day with a 10 percent discount if you want to stay monthly. lol it was insane, I'm waiting for it to pop back up on the website, because I may be tempted to do it again!
This is great, thanks for sharing!
No problem :)

Happy weekend......
Planning on traveling full time in a couple of years - will also be on a budget so looking at similar area. Thailand visa system is a bit of a pain though - but the food .....hmmmmm
Yeah, I was researching the Visa for Thailand, and I've read, if I'm not mistaking for me, being a US Citizen, I get a travel visa, if I stay for over 30 days, on the 29th day I have to leave Thailand and just return and I can get t renewed, up to 3 times. So basically stay 90 days before I'd have to fill out additional paperwork and pay additional fees. Was looking at this because I wanted to join a gym in Thailand, to get in crazy shape and stay for 90 days.
Sounds like it's a no brainer. If you can do it, go for it!
I'd like to, seems like a beautiful place.
Imagine how much your travel posts will make you on steemit. Your daily life will be a well followed vlog.
Well in less than 3 weeks I'm starting a project of biking across the USA. And using only the rewards from Steemit to pay for everything. Basically, seeing how many miles the power of Steem can take me!
You're going to finish the ride with more money than you started. If this opportunity known as steemit had been around in my twenties I would be doing similar stuff like you're planning, or like @dannystravels. Go for it, I'll support your posts.
Thanks, I think it'll be a blast!! I'll check him out!!

Thailand is definitely a place where you can live on a budget. While I spent 3 months in Chiang Rai I payed 4€ a day for my room in a hostel and spent maybe 10€ in total for a whole day. And Thailand is just amazing!
I just wrote an article about how I almost got burned in Thailand. Maybe you enjoy reading it (づ。◕‿‿◕。)づ
Oh I will definitely check that out, that sounds awesome!!!
