My father lives on Amelia Island in Florida. It's an awesome place to escape typical work life, yet since he lives there, he seems to always feel like he's on vacation.
Also called Fernandina Beach, everyone on the island is as friendly as it gets. It seems like most people there are upper middle class citizens who worked hard to be there.
The sunsets are without a doubt awesome.
Recently Hurricane Matthew left the beach looking like this though:
Luckily the damage ended up being minimal!
The downtown area is great too! People are friendlier than you could imagine.
Take a week off and head to Amelia Island and I bet you won't regret it!
I've been there several times and it is truly a beautiful place to visit and live. North Florida is often overlooked in favor of Orlando or Miami, but I think it's one of the best parts of the state, for that and other reasons. Amelia is about an hour from St. Augustine, which is also worth a visit. Thanks for the beautiful photos. I miss that Florida sunshine
You're right! Everyone overlooks North Florida like it's nothing. Thanks for the great comment :)
You're so welcome---wish I was on the beach on Amelia Island right now:)
adding it to the list :)
Let me know if you need any restaurant recommendations :D
