A couple months ago I went to visit a natural Park, Marmore's Waterfalls near Terni (Italy) in the middle of mountains and it was an amazing experience.
The place is full of things that are naturally made like a lake, caves or weird stuff like the one bellow. There are tracks that bring you to see the whole park and you have to walk, walk, walk and the go up and down up and down. :-)). To visit it all it took me like 3 hours, more or less.
The whole place is very humid and you can feel the water on your skin, actually in some places I was all wet.
INFORMATIONS
Waterfalls have a controlled flow and are among the highest in Europe, with a split in 3 jumps, it has a total of 165 meters. Waterfalls are used for the production of hydroelectric power, that's why the flow is controlled, therefore is not always open at full capacity. They have a precise times so you can set yourself the visit.
Flora and Fauna are mediterranean maquis. Waterfalls have an extraordinary biological wealth. There are many plants that belong to both primitive forms (algae, mosses, liverworts and lichens). These botanical presences include many zoological species belonging to insects, amphibians, fish, reptiles, birds and small mammals.
CAVES - over the centuries, water has dug caves with stalactites and stalagmites on travertine.
Legend
There is always a legend in these types of places. The legned says that there was a fairy creature, a nymph named Nera, she fell in love with the young Shepherd Velino. For the two, it was hard to seeing each other because they belonged to two worlds too different. Juno, angry, turned Nera into a river because he had violeted the rules that didn't allow love with humans. Velino threw himself over the top of Marmore's cliff believing that Nera was drowning in those waters that were not there before. Jove, to avoid his death, during the flight transformed him into water, so that he would be saved and reunited with Black for eternity.
