This is my daughter Ayla. She grew up with our neighbor George, who is also in Mexico for spring break. So George graciously offered to take Ayla and her friends out on his boat. Knowing George as well as I do I instantly thought Oh No, this is not going to end well....
This is George~
SO George arrives 3 hours late from the stated pick up time (not surprisingly)! They head off to the harbor to launch the boat. They arrive at the most sketchy boat dock imaginable. George backs his car down the ramp, and the boat is launched. George jumps out of the car, with it running and the door wide open, and jumps into the boat along with everyone else. The boat floats out to sea. Soon they realize that the motor does not work and they are stranded, keep in mind the car is still running with the door open back at the ramp. George says don’t worry we have an oar (1 oar). After a failed attempt at rowing the boat, George finally jumps out of the boat and into the fish pond to swim back to shore. Once on shore he throws Ayla a rope but it’s too short, so he has to stand neck deep in the water and try to pull them in. He finally pulls the boat to shore and it gets stuck in the sand.
NOW George finally realizes that the car is still running, so he jumps in the car and parks it. Whew, at least the car didn’t get stolen!
AS they are all sitting in the boat waiting for the mechanic, who never came, they see a car up on the road just blow up. Then about 15 minutes later, a guy appears out of nowhere, gets into the car, and drives it away. (What?)
Several locals offered to help them at this point, thank God! So now with 9 people all pushing the boat, they get it out of the sand. Meanwhile a stray dog limps over and begins ferociously barking at George adding to the drama.
IN THE END they got the boat back on the trailer and were done! So much for the fun day at sea on the boat.
IRONICALLY this tale did not surprise me, knowing George, but it made for a great story!
