A weekend in the Hamptons

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

If you have been on this Earth long enough you probably heard about Hamptons, or at least seen it in the movies.

                       Ahh it is finally summer...

I always viewed Hamptons as this glamorous summer camp for adults, where all the glitterati of NYC flock together to have a banger weekend all summer long. Located about 2-3 hours away from NYC, you can get there either by car, bus or a helicopter if you can afford it.

People who go to the Hamptons just want to get away from the busy NYC life but you can’t escape NY scene there, it is all the same people from Manhattan, that circle is pretty tight. But it all does not matter because it would still be a change of scenery. You'll be surrounded by a lot of trees, great beaches and farms, along with cute little streets filled with ridiculously expensive but great restaurants and lounges.

You can either buy a house in the Hamptons or rent it out. Both are super expensive, and houses get booked months in advance. I guess regardless the price the demand is still very high. Most houses there have pools and jacuzzi. Most restaurants, nightclubs, and dayclubs are located in South Hamptons and East Hamptons. If you’re looking for something more hipster you can head to Montauk. You can also spend a day on the Sunset Beach, it's located on the Shutter Island to which you have to get to by ferry or your own boat. Sunset Beach has a hotel there if you want to crash but the main thing is their lounge.

Summer in the Hamptons means you’ll be drinking a LOT of rosé. I’ve never consumed as much rosé as as I did in the Hamptons, even more than when I visited St. Tropez.

In the Hamptons you will run into all sorts of people. Let's start from the Old Money, they've been coming to the Hamptons since they were little kids, generations upon generations. They like to keep things classy, play tennis and throw lavish fundraiser parties. Then you have your New Money or the Nouveau Riche, 99% of them are guys from Wall St who are trying to spend their money like market is about to crash. They party hard, do a lot of drugs and have a lot of women next to them. Some of them still don't know how to act and spend money so they go ALL out.

Your Hamptons experience will heavily depend on the company you keep. It’s all about knowing people in that game. Either you staying with promoters, who show you off, wine and dine you for free if you’re a girl, and for some unknown amount if you’re a guy lol or you can rent a nice house with a bunch of friends and have a great experience. It's all about what are you looking for.

You can do a lot of fun activities in the Hamptons, ranging from going to amazing restaurants and nightclubs, surfing, horseback riding and BBQ. I prefer attending fundraiser parties at someone’s fat crib or sun tanning on a huge boat of some hedge fund manager lol

Uber and taxi in the Hamptons are super expensive, it is better to rent your own car but if you’re going out and drinking all day I would not recommend doing that. There also nice farms there with local foods, and some small wineries if you’re trying to stay away from the party scene.

Here is the list of my favorite places to visit in the Hamptons if I haven't mentioned them already.

  1. South Hampton Social- great place to go for the evening. You can eat there, dance and it has a beautiful outdoor space! I'm not a huge a fan of nightclubs so this place is perfect. It is more social, hence the name.

  2. Sant Ambroeus- my favorite place for lunch or brunch. Great food, and beautiful little courtyard, located in South Hamptons as well.

  3. Scarpetta Beach- if you want to have an amazing Italian dinner on the water in Montauk this is the best place to choose from. Food here is topnotch and it's great for people watching.

  4. The LEO- I can't exclude a nightclub from this list. Love their interior, great sound as well. That's the place where you bump into the people you know in Manhattan. It's connected to the restaurant so if you want to make things super convenient you could have dinner there and then walk right into the club, bottle service required.

Honestly it doesn't matter what you do there, it matters who you are with. As long as you have fun with some great people you should have a good time. You might have a blast with your friends just surfing all day, and eating lobster bisque with fresh oysters.
