Kite Beach Disaster!

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

You have spent the day meeting wonderful people and had a lovely day taking some great photographs and videos.

Spreading the word about steemit is such a joy and you want to share what you found.

You come home and download your photos to your computer to review the days results.

You are very happy while you think about your new blog on the days events, places you saw and people you met

It was a great day and one worthy of sharing with your friends.

Then for some reason, disaster!

You make a rookie mistake and deleted the entire days photographs!

All you have left are 3 low quality thumbnails. What can you do?

You are going dolally trying to figure out what the heck you did wrong?

Come on... You are a I.C.T. teacher and computer scientist.

How the heck did you manage to screw up so badly? What happened?

Several annoying hours later I give myself a get out of jail free card.

I searched the hard drive and phone and the photos are nowhere to be seen?

I even used recovery software to scour my devices for hours and not because I want to wow fellow steemians with my photographic skills, but because I had introduced someone very special to this wonderful platform.

"I'm still just a human being and we all make mistakes from time to time.
It is my only defense!""

I apologize from the bottom of my heart to Ingrid. I screwed up.

Ingrid is a waitress we met yesterday. She is from Cape town, South Africa a city and country that we both love dearly.

It was fantastic to meet her working at this little cafe on Kite beach in Dubai.

We took a few photos and had a lovely long chat about everything and anything and about South Africa the country that we both love, but worry for it's future, what with all the corruption that is rampant there.

I reviewed the photos that we had made during breakfast and thought that they were not good enough. The lighting was very poor.

I went back and asked Ingrid if we could take some more photos which Ingrid was kind enough to do again.

Sadly all of these photos are forever lost and all that I could recover were a few pretty poor thumbnail photos of the beach.

Ingrid. It was a privilege to meet you and I hope we can hook up in the UK and spend some time together.

You are a rock star.

I had almost thrown in the towel on writing anything about the day when my daughter @nataliemk said.

"Why not just tell everyone exactly what happened?"

My super smart and sensible daughter is my touchstone.

I thought about it for a while and it dawned on me, that the real reason I was so upset about losing the photos, was nothing to do with how popular this post might be, or how much money it might make?

I just felt like I had let Ingrid down somehow?

Ingrid doesn't know me from a hole in the ground, and probably couldn't care a fig about a few lost photos.

But I am representing steemit and that matters to me, apart from the human aspect of just meeting a wonderful human being.

Luckily I left Ingrid my business card and she may read this and know that I didn't forget her.

Ingrid, I look forward to meeting you again sometime, wherever it may be.

It was a great privilege to meet you. You are a wonderful human being.

The cafe is called Park House and is very popular because of the food, which is good but more importantly because of people, like Ingrid.

You can look up the cafe online but it doesn't look like that anymore.

The images online are old and do not match reality today.

oh the pictures, it has happened with me too and took me a day to get over such self pain.

It really was such a silly mistake to make. I was so very tired from the day at the beach that I made the error. A good but painful lesson to learn. Don't delete anything when you are tired. :(

Hi @molometer! You have received 0.1 SBD tip + 0.02 SBD @tipU from @dswigle :)

Check out new tipuvote! feature :)

You are human and if there was a show of hands, we have all done a deed we don't want to own up to!

Ingrid sounds like a lovely girl and I am sure she will understand plus the fact that you wrote such a great story, perhaps it was even better because you had no photos?

I am sorry that you lost them, but, that sounds like another field trip to Dubai!!!

Tip!

It was a rookie mistake but your are right we all goof up sometime.

Returning to Dubai sounds like a excellent idea. We are leaving for home tomorrow.

The other good news is that Ingrid has my card and she travels to the UK quite often so maybe we will see her over there? Thanks for the tip @dswigle

Thank you for letting me escape to the beach for awhile. :D

This is our current condition outside...

I'm sorry you lost photo's though. I hate when I do that!

Ouchie! that looks very cold.

Oh my ... I can relate to that. It also happened to me when I'm shooting photos at the Sinulog Festival here in Cebu. It was a good day and and I'm very happy 'coz I know I've taken all the shots that i need. And then after the hard work, I just found out that the SD Card is corrupted when I will transfer the photos to my computer for editing. All the photos cannot be recovered. And the best part of it is that someone is expecting to see those photos.

Well, this things really happens. :)

O my word what a disaster @garokee I now know that feeling of loss and annoyance.

At least in your case it was equipment failure. In my case it was a dumb mistake which should never have happened!?

Some good lessons to learn from this.
1 Back up everything...twice lol
2 Don't waste time thinking about it.
3 Find a solution.

Well, we've learned our lessons the hard way. :)

You can get in the habit of taking a few shots with your phone as well as your main camera. Then have it set so Google Photos automatically backs up all the pics from your phone.

Good excuse for another fun trip back to Dubai!

That makes sense lol as I'm still here?
