"Orloj" is the peak work of Czech Gothic science and technology and an artistic monument 😉
According to legend, the councilors of Prague deprived of sight of the champion, who "astronomical" constructed, he could not in another city to build a copy.
At every full hour between 9am and 9pm two sculptures appear in the two windows of the apostles. On both sides of the clock, the figures of Kosciuszko, Turka, Skąpca and Pyszałek are animated simultaneously. After all the apostles appear, cock pits and tower clock start to beat.
"Orloj" shows four types of time
Central European Time (Old German)
- marked with roman numerals, shows it a tip of the sun.
Old Bohemian Time
- By this time a new day begins at sunset. It is marked with gold gothic figures on a separate ring.
Babylonian time (uneven)
- according to the time of this type of day lasts from sunrise to sunset, therefore summer hours are longer than winter. Prague "Orloj" is the only one in the world that can measure it that way.
Space time
- is represented by roman numerals. At the bottom of the facade is a calendar shield, which shows the day and its place in the week, month and year.
