Neuschwanstein: The Ultimate Fairytale Castle germany
Neuschwanstein Castle sits majestically atop a hill above the village of Hohenschwangau in south-west Bavaria.
Designed in Romanesque revivalist style, construction of this mystical palace built by King Ludwig II of Bavaria commenced in 1869 but it would be a further 13 years before construction was completed.

Today Neuschwanstein fairytale Castle is most popular place in Europe. Each year, around 1.4 million people visit the “fairy-tale castle”, and if it looks rather familiar, that’s because it was the inspiration for Disney’s iconic Sleeping Beauty castle and has also featured in numerous other movies over the years.
Located in the village of Hohenschwangau, close to both Scwangau and Fussen, and where the path leading to the castle starts, this is also the last place to park your car. Walking up to the castle entrance takes 30 to 40 minutes but there are shuttle buses and horse-drawn carriages after which it’s just a 5-minute walk to the castle entrance.
