Before I traveled to Sri Lanka last October 2016, I had imagined it to be similar to India in terms of pollution, traffic jams, noise and overpopulation. In fact, in some online travel communities and groups, Sri Lanka is being used as a "training ground" for novice backpackers traveling to India to avoid culture shock as it's food, culture, and climate are very similar.
But Sri Lanka turned out to be the exact opposite! I was amazed how clean it is!
What struck me most was the level of cleanliness in Colombo, Sri Lanka’s capital, the largest and most crowded city home to more than 5 million people. There were no garbage on the streets or overflowing drains that is very common in any Indian city. It is comparable to Singapore in terms of cleanliness!
Sri Lanka is amazingly beautiful, exotic destination full of culture, nature, wildlife, and friendly people. The biggest tourist boom is happening right now which means NOW is the best time to go!
