A trip in the rustic mountains of Oman

in #travel5 years ago (edited)

This was around 2 months back when we made our last outing in the Mountains of Oman before proceeding to India. This whole of winter season has sadly not been much fruitful for us due to my hubby's ill health, otherwise almost every weekend in this season we would be doing outings and exploring new places in Oman.
Nevertheless we still have a month and a half with this season and hopefully we can make 1 or 2 trips somewhere before the season ends.

This particular one was a day excursion in the mountains of Oman. Once you hit these roads then there is nothing you will get on the way, so you need to pack up all your supplies and take it. I enjoy long drives, when we drive into these rustic mountains it feels like we are going back in time. There are some few small villages in the mountains and you see that life here is ages behind then what you see in cities. People here live simple lives. No fancy gadgets, no fancy cars. They do not know what is Macdonald's or KFC or a Pizza. Lifestyle is to the bare basics and self sustained.
Normally the marketing part the man of the house would do it once a week, as they would need to drive far for it. In these families normally one man of the house would be working in the city and then visit the family over the weekend.
One of my cab driver is also from these places, once he had brought his family to the city, so I had invited them home. He's a very nice person and has been of help to me couple of times, so I wanted to have his family come over home.
I would see that the female members of the family were so very naive about the city lifestyle. They were feeling amused with a lot of things around.

So coming back to our drive part. We started at 9 in the morning, had packed up our food and water bottles, some snacks to munch on. We were a group of 12 all geared up. It was a 4 hour drive up to the top and then we spent some time there and drove back to the city.

It was a bright and clear day. At the top the temperature was around 15 degrees.

On the way also got to see Pomegranate trees. This place we visited is famous for it.

By the time we started our return journey it was Sunset time.

It was a wonderful day spent in the wilderness of the region.

Have you been to the cave of the djinn?

No, I have not. Is it in Oman? Not that I have heard of.

Beautiful scenery. Thanks for the shots. Reminds me a little of Palm Springs in California where I lived a few years,

Thanx, glad you liked it.
We visited Palm Springs sime years ago and we had a very haunted experience at the hotel. It was scary, though there was no harm to us, and the hotel guy told us, it is very normal in this place.
