Las Vegas is many things, but beautiful is probably not the word that first comes to mind. To anyone who’s been there or seen it on TV or in the movies it’s always big, noisy and full of life and shining lights. But, Vegas also has another side, a side that isn't shown as often, that small window when the blue hour turns to a golden morning with the sunrise.
During our American Southwest Road Trip we flew directly to Las Vegas from Oslo, Norway, meaning that we had a nine-hour jetlag to deal with. We had booked one of the smaller suites at The Cosmopolitan, but Anders had secretly upgraded us to the Terrace studio suite! When checking in, we were also upgraded once again, from the 14th to the 52nd floor, overlooking the Strip and the fountains of Bellagio.
So, what do you get when you combine nine-hour jetlag with a suite with a view in Las Vegas? Well, you can get a quite magical and romantic experience. Due to the jetlag we both woke up before sunrise, put on our bath robes and slippers (thank you Cosmopolitan!) and lounged on the balcony for more than an hour while watching the sun slowly light up the sky in the horizon and then ascend over the Strip. During this time (around 5am-6am in March) the town is rather quiet, the temperature is pleasant and there is a softness and almost serenity during those minutes when the town goes from harsh artificial lights and darkness to the warm morning light.
Of course, with the knowledge that this is the first day of a 14-day long vacation, being in a suite with more space than you need, and knowing that you’re about to go and have a nutella brioche at Jean Philippe also helps with the positive feeling. Those nutella brioches though, we’ll have to get back to you on them, they’re definitely worth a post on their own.
