Accidental Tourist KL Adventure with @jockey

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

I woke up today not expecting much, but as it happens, things always happen when you least expect them to!
I volunteered to join my old friend @jockey on his little KL adventure and I really can’t believe we did everything he said he wanted to do.

Chinatown

First stop was Chinatown, which in KL is located in an area we locals call Petaling Street. As a local, I don’t usually shop here. However @jockey was on a special mission today. He wanted to burn some good luck incense for all our fellow steemians and we needed to go to the temple in Chinatown to do so.
We made our way to the Sin Sze Si Ya temple which is the oldest Taoist temple in Malaysia. It was built in 1864 by Kapitan Yap Ah Loy, the third and most famous Chinese Kapitan in Kuala Lumpur. He is remembered for his role in forging Kuala Lumpur back in the day as one of the most developed cities in Malaysia.
This temple I gather was where the Chinese community would come and still come to offer incense to the deities within.

For RM 10 we were given a pink “Good Luck” slip to write our wishes on before it was tied to a large incense coil to be slowly burnt as an offering to the dieties.

That done, we stopped by the crystal shop to pick up so luck crystals so they could be blessed by the monk at the Indian temple at Batu Caves.

I’m 36 years old and I have never been to Batu Caves. We even took the bus, LRT and KTM commuter which I as a local have never tried before

@jockey walked all the way up those stairs to get the stones blessed by an Indian monk! I mean that is dedication.
Being proudly Malaysian I sat myself down at the air-conditioned cafe, ordered myself a pineapple slushie and waited the 20 minutes he took to get the stones blessed and jog down those steps again.

I also enjoyed a tissue tosai which was overpriced and greasy.

We made it back to KL via KTM commuter which I must say is amazingly comfortable and clean for public transportation.
It didn’t go all the way to KL Sentral so we had to disembark at sentul and catch a free bus to KL Sentral.
Back at Mont Kiara @jockey decides he wants to check out a really fat Chinese chef cooking some Char Kuay Teow in a wok. So Chris and I take him to Sri Hartamas to take a video of some hot wok action. You can check out his D.tube video at @jockey . Although something went wrong with his upload so maybe you can check it out tomorrow?
I just want to thank @jockey for showing me a part of my own city which I have never seen in my 36 years!
Sometimes we need to spend some time checking out our own city. After all tourists come everyday from all over the world to check it out so there must be a little something that motivates that kind of tourism!
Probably just to see these guys hang out?
