Visit Pasundan Christian Church (GKP) Kampung Sawah at Bekasi

in #travel19 days ago (edited)

Hello, everyone. In the previous post, I explained that I had visited Kampung Sawah, Bekasi. This village is very famous for its acculturation between religion and culture. In addition to the Servasius Church, there is also the Pasundan Christian Church (GKP) Kampung Sawah, which was founded in 1874.

Why did I go there? I went there to learn about the diversity of Kampung Sawah. I want to explain a few things about this place from my perspective. In terms of buildings, this place has a blend of local and Dutch values . On the other hand, Kampung Sawah is a multicultural community where there is a spirit of tolerance and openness in all aspects, including the design of this building.

There are main characters of this building that reflect acculturation. First, the traditional local style is reflected in the roof of the church which has a Javanese building. The roof of the church is Joglo. Like other Javanese buildings. Then the use of wood and tiles signifies the warmth of traditional local harmony. In the past, houses in West Java used a lot of wood.

What about the Dutch influence? This can be seen from the high windows and doors. There is good ventilation by adjusting the tropical climate. Then the symmetrical and sturdy structure is a characteristic of Dutch buildings. This building indicates that the age of the building can be very long.

Next, the minimalist decoration. This church does not have excessive decoration. Only a touch of Betawi ethnicity is seen in the size of the wood in this church. Then, this church has a neutral color using white, dark brown, and cream. These colors give a peaceful and shady impression.

This building has a large main room for the congregation to pray. Many gardens and green areas show the beauty of this place. This place also uses traditional Betawi clothing used by the congregation to pray. This also indicates that this place has an acculturation of local Indonesian culture.

From several explanations, this church has a strong historical, cultural, and social meaning. That's all I can tell you. What do you think about this place? Don't forget to comment. See you
