Dear Readers!
As i promised, i continue our Singapore adventures. We only stayed 3 nights here before we went to Bali, so we were trying to see as many things as possible.
I would like to write some facts about Singapore. Singapore's territory consists of one main island along with 62 other small islands. I think Singapore is one of the most greenest countries in the world. It has a strict greening policy, and it is planted all around with trees and flowers. Even the highways are covered with tropical flowers and trees. It is also the cleanest country. You are not allowed to litter, you can be fined or arrested just for spitting, littering or selling chewing gum. Yes, chewing gum! Fines vary from 500-1000 USD. To strafe people is also legal, so be careful with gums and cigarettes. As you can see the city is well set and really clean. Everything is organised and old and new buildings are in harmony with each other.
Singapore is also very expensive. I've already been in Japan and Canada, they are pretty expensive too, but Singapore surpassed both. Singapore has the world's highest percentage of millionaires, with one out of every six households having at least one million US dollars in disposable wealth. You can't really have a cheap meal here ( there are food courts and Chinatown that are cheaper), which was tragic for us, since we love to eat, but we didn't want to spend our monthly income for food. Imported beverages like wine and water are also very expensive. Despite that, we tried the most famous seafood restaurant Jumbo . It was beyond our expectations! The staff and the food, everything was great! I really recommend to visit Jumbo when you are in Singapore!
When our stomach was full we headed to Orchard Road, Asia’s most famous shopping street, which is home to fashion favourites, specialist stores and loads of other lifestyle choices. As we were walking by a beautiful park bumped into our sight! We went in and enjoyed the smell of the greens and the calmness.
Orchard Road is a dream for all fashionistas, like me. I collect bags and shoes, and i struggled not to buy anything there, but i did it! You can find both high-end luxury brands (Chanel, YSL, LV, Gucci etc..) as well fast fashion stores like Zara and Abercrombie. For the makeup lovers Sephora is all around the city and because we don't have Sephora in Hungary i stocked up my supplies there. Wear your comfy sneakers, while Orchard Road spanning almost 2.2km.
After the vibrating Orchard Road we wanted to visit the traditional, Chinese district. 74,1% of the residents are Chinese and mandarin is the second most common language (first is english), so it has a pretty nice and big Chinese quarter. Crowded streets, loud chatting, small markets: a beautiful and colourful chaos (yet still organised). Oh i mentioned i didn't really bought anything at Orchard Road, well i brought it in here..
Before we went back to our hotel, we visited the second most famous spot in Singapore: the Merlion. The Merlion is the national personification of Singapore. Its name combines "mer", meaning the sea, and "lion". The fish body represents Singapore's origin as a fishing village. The lion head represents Singapore's original name—Singapura—meaning "lion city".
Stay tuned for our 3rd day adventures, when we visited the Supertree Grove, the ArtScience Museum and an interesting historical park!
