Travel with me: THE OLD TOWN OF BUDVA

in #travel7 years ago

Hello, everyone!

Today I want to take you with me on a walk through the Old Town of Budva – a charming medieval core of Budva in Montenegro.

It is situated on an ancient site of some earlier settlements, some of which probably preceed the Greek colonisation of this part of the Adriatic Coast (source). Illyrians, Greeks, Romans, Venetians, citizen of Austro-Hungarian Emprie, Yugoslavia, Serbia and now Montenegro have made it their home in the past two millenias.

The Old Town was built like a fort, with defensive fortifications at the forefront of the city planning. Inside the city walls narrow streets create a special European charm so common for old towns in many European capitals such as Warsaw, Prague, Stockholm and others.

Me, demonstrating how narrow the streets really are

One of the charming inner courtyards. Believe it or not, people actually do live in these houses! There are also plenty of hostels and hotels, restaurants and cafés, souvenir shops and small stores too.

Stone stairs, leading to upper floors, is a prevailing feature of the Old Town’s architecture.

The sun setting over the St. Maria Church built on the city wall.

A bonus photo, to serve as an early warm-up for the coming Caturday:

Street cats, waiting to be fed.

I hope you enjoyed visiting the Old Town of Budva with me today! Please leave your impressions and questions in the comments below. We have a few more picturesque walks to take together around Budva, so I hope to see you again soon!

I didn't know that the city was so historical with such beautiful buildings. Thank you for bringing us a bit of Budva again :)

I hope you will see and experience it for yourself one day too, Martina!

Thank you Oleg! Have a nice day and a great start to the weekend!

woohoo what a great trip you took us on :D your pictures are well done and show of the styles :D hmm buut 'people actually do live in these houses! " soo why wouldent they live there? ha ha
i like that you grabed a click of them cats, they are like ALL over ;)

what a beautiful town. I love old places compared to modern towns which lack of charm and life. theyre too mechanical.

Nice photos too!

Thank you very much for your feedback, @nazirullsafry!

This town looks stunningly beautiful! It reminds me of old towns in France and Italy I have visited. The narrow streets seem to be a common recurrence with old towns and it's charming.

You don't seem happy between those houses lol! I could live there. Those must have been old, no? The houses reminds me of Game of Thrones. Are those cats strays?

It’s just my normal Russian face expression – we are incapable of smiling for the camera. :)))

The original town was built in the previous centuries, but it was destroyed to a large extent by an earthquake back in 1979 and reconstructed in the 80’s. But it does look as it used to, before the destruction. So in a way it is both new and old at the same time.

Yes, they are. There are plenty of stray cats all around the city, even on the beaches. We went to a monastery yesterday – and of course there were cats and even baby-kittens there too.

Is that true? Hmm...

It is interesting how they were able to rebuild and restore everything. There is a place here in our country where the technique of building a house takes years. To restore the old houses is not possible so they resort to newer techniques which destroys the authenticity and originality of the place. I hope they can come up with something to rebuild those houses just like the olden days but do it quicker.

I hope it doesn't smell like cat there :D

The picture that can be painted with color of human imagination seems to be more natural. The painting is no longer in color and color. Photography is also limited to camera frames. Like technology and rich imagination of human imagination.

I got over to your posts again today, glad to see them and your shiny head in btw those tight buildings my friend.

Have you gotten your folks on EOS yet?

LOL

Be well my friend.
