This is a famous old church in Berlin, bombed out in World War II but left in disrepair as a reminder of what happened here.
It’s a relic left in the middle of what has become a modernized Berlin, rebuilt to accommodate modern transportation wirh wide thoroughfares and highways. It stands empty amongst huge glass office towers in a business and shopping district.
Here’s a photo from that old classic film, Wings of Desire, by Wim Winders (shot in glorious black and white in 1987).
Modern Berlin is very hipster/arty. This is a classic brunch-style Saturday morning type restaurant. The inside looks like a rainforest.
The food is classic healthy food, an egg over a salad with rice, avocado and tomatoes.
Let me tell you guys: the food in Europe is SO much more flavorful than the states and yet simple. What a meal!
Now, if you want to finish your day in Berlin with somenthing relaxing, yet educational, I’d recommend one of the river boat tours.
