Hey steemians! Debu here, today we will be travelling from Jinghong to Mojiang which is around 300 kms. Time taken would be around 8 hours because it was raining and the speed limit is 80kms/hr.
Good to know stuff - bikes are not allowed in highways so we had to take the other route through the towns and suburbs. Good thing is you get to experience China but bad part is you will be in 3rd-4th gear thoughout. While going through the forest area to our destination we saw a elephant park! I really wanted to stop and see it but we had to reach the hotel on time so we had to skip that. The most interesting part about China, which we experienced so far, was that you get a fully developed city or town and before or after 10 kms from it, it's a total forest area. China so far has been a great mixture of big tall buildings and lush forests.
The roads were great, although we were not allowed in the highways. We stopped for a break after doing 100 kms, I had some coffee, DJ had a M150 (local energy drink). The most hillarious thing about the journey was me trying to make the locals understand what I wanted in sign language. They didn't know english and me Chinese, Leo (our guide) came to my rescue. One of the advantages of riding on local roads rather than higways is that you get lots of local stalls where you can stop and refresh and eat.
We had to stop after doing 126 kms for a security check (they wanted to check our visa). We started at 9 o'clock local time and till 1 o'clock we had covered only 130 kms. It was mostly because we were not on the highway, we made a few breaks and the road were a narrow and with a lot of turns.
We stopped at a local food joint to have our lunch. We had vegetarian food and our guides had some pork dish. We found a few locals smoking tobacco from a bong made of bamboo.
This ride was one of the most challenging because it was a hilly area with lots (And I mean LOTS) of curves or turns and it also started raining around 50 kms from Mojiang. By the time we reached the hotel at Mojiang our hands and shoulders were paining. We just checked in, had our dinner and dozed off.
Stay tuned for more blogs from China! Cheers!
Why are bikes not allowed on highways ?
Don't know really, it's the rule there I guess.
