Born in Medellin in 1932, Fernando Botero is one of the most recognized artists of Colombia as well as all Latin America. He is known for a very specific artistic style (sometimes referred to as "Boterism") that is characterized by enormously large figures of people and animals with exaggerated or even distorted body proportions. To put it less formally, he is known for his signature "Fat Statues". These statues can be found all over the world - from Germany, Italy and Monaco to France, New York, Singapore, and, of course, his homeland Colombia.
