Tour de Suisse, Part III - Passhöhe Klausenpass

in #travel8 years ago (edited)

As you may know from my last posts, I was showing my fiancée my favorite spots in Switzerland during her visit in early June, and wanted to share my favorite pictures from that little "Tour de Suisse" with you.

We already covered

After we had a little picnic, enjoying the view of lake Sarnen far below, we got back in the car and made our way to Glarus, with a short stop in Altdorf, the capital of the canton of Schwiiz. It may be a regional capital, but it's really a small village with nothing much to see apart from the mountains within which it's nested.

Glarus, another regional capital, didn't have much to offer either, especially as everything was closed at 10 PM and the good people of inner Switzerland asleep or watching TV, but I knew that. We didn't come for the city, just passing through.

Originally, I had planned to also include Davos, the famous ski region, but that beautiful bit of Switzerland would have to wait for another day, as the sun was setting and we still had a long way to go.

The Glarner alps offered some gorgeous views while we drove on, but alas there was never really an opportunity to get out and take pictures, until we reach the Klausenpasshöhe, the highest point of the Klausen mountain pass.

This was taken at almost 2000 meters above sealevel:

And you may remember this little chapel from an earlier post, when it was enveloped in spooky fog:

It was getting late now, even for me, and we made our way home from there. A few hours later, we fell into bed exhausted, but happy. It was a near perfect day.

There was more to see, but it would have to wait (part IV).

Our route so far:

I hope you enjoyed these pictures and that they made you want to some day visit Switzerland!

I went to Switzerland 2 months ago, it's literally my favorite country I've been to (minus how expensive it is). The little towns around Interlaken were my favorite.

Oh yes, between the two lakes and the alps, the Region around Interlaken is breathtaking. But it's one more place that I will have to show her later this year, as we just did not have time for everything. Of course.

I'm glad you liked the post :-)

I'll check out your contest, it seems interesting!

Thanks!
I think my favorite big city was Luzern. It felt like a real life Disney World.
And I got to visit a village that bears my mom's family name, where my ancestors were from... so it was really going back to my roots for me. I definitely want to go back too :)

I'm glad you liked it so much and I hope you'll visit again some day!

Love switzerland.. such a beautiful country. :) upvoted..
