Pasalubong is a tagalog word simply means a "homecoming gift from a traveler returning from a long trip".
I remember when I was a kid, my papa would look for some sort of food that he can buy during his travel way back home. There are different places and provinces that offers wide variety of pasalubong starting from sweets, viand, arts and crafts like souveniers and some printed clothes as well. As the matter of fact it was a great way to have a remembrance/souveniers from a trip anywhere in the world.
Yesterday my fiance had a long bike ride from his fellow bike friend. Their target destination Doña Remedios Trinidad also known as DRT.
This place was a part of a mountain so the road was elevated that's why it is a bikers/motorcycle favorite place to have a ride especially the high peaks of the road will surely test your strength, knee and stamina.
I haven't been there so I'm a bit jealous cause I am not able to come and see for myself what this place looks like. But still thanks for Google I can have a glimpse of view.
They took around 3-4 hours riding a bike and it depends on their speed. Luckily they made it and enjoy the cold water from the falls surrounded by huge rock formation. During that time many tourist find time to rest and enjoy the view. Nothing beats the natural beauty as a reward from a long ride though.
Enjoying my Treat as a Reward of Waiting!
I've waited for him to arrived and surprised me with this 2 simple chips and a sweet desert. It is shing-aling, cassava chips and lastly my new favorite pastillas.
Shing-a-ling it is from an egg noodle made to dry then deep fry it and toss with some seasonings like salt and pepper.
It is my classic childhood favorite chips. We often buy this chips going south which my mama's relatives living there. We also lived there when I was six years old. Sometimes foods had a lot to say when our memories will flash it while we were eating this chips so I guess no wonder why I loved this chips :)
Cassava Chips cassava cut into thin strips, deep fry and toss with cheese powder.
I guess my third or fourth time trying this out. It looks like a potato chips for it's thin shape but taste are different. It has a thick and slight sweetness compared to potato chips that has a lighter crisp finish. However cassava chips can be much cheaper and more vegan friendly than potato.
Pastillas de Leche milk powder, condenesed milk and sugar mixed together and form into a small round shape.
This pastillas really taste good! I can compare this pastillas to an ordinary pastillas which is common in the market. I found out that they uses carabao's milk which surprises me.
I don't know if they made the carabao's milk into powder but the rich taste of it was too flavorful. It can melt inside your mouth even without trying to chew it unlike the common pastillas chewing that much.
These kind of pasalubong will spoil me and been wanting to have a bike so I can go to different places. Food and travel are like twins. They were together and stays together. I hope I can give you a glimpse of filipino snacks upon my blog. It's been awhile and I am hoping I can engage myself going back into writing.
Gracias ❤
