My wild Kenyan Adventure

in #travel7 years ago

Leaving my Daily life, for my new venture was a little nerve wrecking, not only have I never been near Kenya nor do know anyone who has been there either, but like my Mama and Dad always say “hold you’re your head held high and go for it.

As I checked in my bags in and I had to say goodbye to my husband Jake, I gave him a kiss and headed for the gate. With my passport and visa, finally I was on the others side of the gate, I now have 1 hour to wait, I went up to the nearest coffee stand, I grabbed a donut and my hot chocolate.
We started to check in and board. I went to my seat I was seated at 25B. flighing with SAA is my second favourite airline. It’s a costly flight for plus minus R10 000 for a round trip. I had a lady called Jean it was lovely having good company especially since it takes us four and a half hours to fly into Nairobi.
I have rented a car a Mitsubishi Pajero to make sure, as I travel and do my research that not only am I am safe; it can also go off road. After I pick up my car and translator and we headed to our hotel the longview suite hotel. It has everything we need from free wifi to a gym. We spent the first few 3 days resting and planning. Monday after resting for the weekend we got work to do after eating my favourite a sunrise breakfast and a cup of hot chocolate. Samuel my interpreter hoped in the front.

Our FIRST stop was a little village called Ngomongo Village . as we ride into the village, I become more and more excited!!! People are so friendly as we drive the Children wave and smile as they do their individual chores from selling fruit to watch the goats drink their water.

Ngomongo is known for planting trees, they use the trees as boarders around their farms or pieces of land. They also love their wild animals.
We meet a lovely lady named Susan, who proudly showed us her many plants that are specific for the area, “ here are my sugar cane, Okra and guava, this my new friend helps me pay for my children’s future. Well thank you so much my dear friends. May You always have the sun shining on your face. As we leave our beautiful friend behind, I am reminded of the hard work ALL our ancestors had to do for us to be here enjoying this beautiful land.

We decided before our next visit with a wonderful woman they call Gogo annie , we will get some food in us, we decided to try some TRADITIONAL FOOD called PUP and beans. It’s a stable in their diet it helps keep belly’s full for longer. After our meal the waiter warned us not to be out during the night it is not safe for tourists. So we would rather be safe than sorry.
We got to our next village’s the village mara it 21 minutes from our last stop which I am actually very excited about, we will be going on an amazing game drive!!! While we there we even get to see some Masi people who are native to Kenya there rituals are ages old and secrets are priceless will be sleeping in the elephant camp in the reserve. Once we arrived we were offered sukumawiki.
Our last 3 weeks were amazing seeing the fantastic animals up close and meeting a lot of people who live just outside the reserve.

After Gogo Annie, we got to meet a great married couple we work hand in hand tending not only to their Grandchildren but also to the field, which feeds not only their huge family but also the food for those they know who are also in need.
I loved sitting round their fires eating their food like Chapatti. Papa Papeto is 8th generation farming this land, his wife and himself had 12 beautiful children together. Makes me so grateful for my Husband, Jake. Tomorrow we on our way back home.
Samuel and I had final goodbye meal together, thank you Sam.
By that time it was time for home.
