The Roques is an archipelago of Venezuela, located in the Caribbean Sea, 168 km north of La Guaira, the port of Caracas. For its beauty and ecological importance, declared a national park in 1972.
To get to The Roques, if you do not already have your own yacht (or a friend with a yacht), you can take a commercial flight from Caracas, Porlamar (Margarita) and Maracaibo. The arrival by air is an unforgettable spectacle, thanks to the variety of blues that can be seen from the air.
The archipelago contains about 50 different islands. The most important, The Great Roque , is the only one populated and it is where the airport is. The other most important islands are Francisqui, Nordisqui, Madrisqui and Crasqui. (See map). However, do not settle for these keys only.
The Roques a paradise of crystalline waters and white sands.
What makes The Roques an extraordinary place is the enormous expanse of calm sea, the presence of lagoons, cays, and white sand beaches (of coral origin) and crystal clear waters of incredible colors.
The Roques: National Park.
Because the Roques is a national park, certain restrictions on construction have been imposed. There are no big luxury hotels, but a great variety of inns, from the simplest and unpretentious to the most luxurious, that take pride in their gastronomy.
