Visiting Toco Beach in Trinidad

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

Howdy Roomerkind Rangers! Did you miss me? I haven't posted in at least two weeks. This is because I was on vacation in the lovely Caribbean island of Trinidad! I married a Trini 17 years ago. This was my sixth trip to the island.

My wife is from a rural village called Cumuto. When we go to Trinidad, she is going to see her family. I am going because I want to go to the beach! Problem is, Cumuto is at least an hour's drive to the nearest beach. And because I don't like driving on the left side of the road, I hire a driver to get to the beach. It is actually less expensive to hire a driver for one day than it is to rent a car.

The first beach we went to was Toco. Toco is a long drive from Cumuto, perhaps two hours. It's not that far as the crow flies, but it takes a long time because you have to drive slowly to get there on winding roads. On the Toco excursion, it was beautiful weather all the way there. Then once we got to Toco it started to get cloudy, but we were were able to get some beach and swimming time in. It only started to rain once we were getting ready to leave. That was fine by me. I was happy, as I had already had the chance to go swimming in the ocean and even lie on my towel on the sand. In fact, the rainy downpour was refreshing. I didn't mind it at all. I stood there in the rain in a torrential downpour and enjoyed it. Then I found the beach "shower"- really just a dripping pipe set at a height. The water coming from the pipe was warm compared to the rain. I stood there in a warm outdoor shower as the rain fell and it felt fabulous, even orgasmic.

Nice post. That nameless beach in the first photo is called Rampanalgas.
