Trip to Squamish, BC, Canada:
Camping season is almost upon us.
I wanted to take an exploratory half-day trip with a friend, and have a fire to see how conditions are looking.
Was very nice because it's still cool enough that the bugs are not out in force, but still comfortable, at around 8c with a bit of rain.
It's time for a fire...
Using mostly store bought wood to ensure a good burn and to limit the need for removing local resources.
Took some time to process some of the logs into kindling, the packs also include resinous "fatwood" which makes lighting it a breeze.
The key to a good fire is preparation, arrange your material in such a way to allow maximum air flow and surface area.
Building the fire is one of the most enjoyable parts, very satisfying to get it just right.
Yep, that looks like it will work.
Took a moment to get a few nice pics of the setup.
Once you have arranged the fuel just right... It's time to light.
The fatwood burns really well (even when wet) but produces a lot of smoke.
Once it's lit, just insert right into the core.
This is the critical phase if the kindling goes out before the larger pieces build enough heat to ignite you will likely have to start all over.
But we are looking good, wont be long now.
There we go!
I'm feeling warmer already.
If everything was prepared properly you shouldn't have to touch it again other than adding fuel when necessary.
I also got some night time fire photos I will upload later.
Perhaps you will enjoy!
