Featherbed Nature reserve.

While on vacation in Knysna, we decided to visit the Featherbed Nature Reserve. To get there, one needs to take a ferry across the Knysna Estuary.

After the short trip with the ferry people are transported, by truck to the top of the Nature reserve, which is situated on the Western Head of the Knysna estuary, where the lagoon flows into the sea.

The views from the top of the head is spectacular.

These heads are treacherous, and 7 ships sank between 1817 and 1853, trying to enter or leave the Knysna lagoon.

Here we are enjoying our trip and the beautiful view.

They erected some wooden platforms from where one can enjoy the views. As you can see it is quite high from the top.

After we were dropped by the truck, we walked back, with some interesting places to visit along the way.

If you look at my post of 10 days ago, you can see the Western Head from the other side of the lagoon.

The walk also involved some stairs to climb, adding some nice exercise to our outing.

Finally we were at sea level again and could admire the lagoon from close by.

Nature reserve was the best idea never building up there, leaving nature to fully immerse oneself in while visiting this beautiful part of our country.
