Hello steemit community!
Sooo today i want to talk about Totora boats! A type of boat made of Reed, their construction for their use in traditional fishing date from one thousand to three thousand BC.
Bolivians still use them in the Titicaca Lake to fish trout and pejerrey.
This great project led by the American biologist Phil Buc pretened to build a Totora boat that weighs eighteen tons, eighteen meters long, two meters tall and four and a half wide.
A normal boat weights between fourty seven and fifty kilos, four to five meters long and one meter wide so... yeah Mr. Buc's boat is Big!
The boat was built in the city of La Paz to achieve the project's goal to travel 10 thousand nautical miles from Arica, Chile, to Sydney, Australia all of this to revalue the knowledge and practices of native cultures in navigation. The "Viracocha III" was set to sail in January of this year.
Due to the time of transport and the construction of sails, masts, rudders, a house on boat hull and equipment of solar panels to provide the boat with electricity in Chile, the departure from port will be delayed until the modifications are completed this year.
GOOD LUCK! To all the Viracocha III team!!
