The most polluted river in the world

Chitaram river located in West Java, Indonesia. The World Bank declared it the world's most polluted river a decade ago.

One study found that more than one hundred times more toxic chemicals were found in the water of Chitaramum than the standards set by safe drinking water.

It is known that about 280 tonnes of wastes are wasted every day in the river. Nothing can be seen on the inside of its dirty water. Water is often seen floating in toxic chemicals, household waste and various animal shit. The pollution of the Chittarum River has reached such a critical condition that authorities have issued health risky circulars.

On the other hand, the lives of nearly three million people dependent on the river's polluted water. These people use irrigation and daily work in the river. Many people drink this water.

This river is about 300 kilometers long. Its water is also used for the electricity produced in Java and Bali Island.
