Singapore (officially the Republic of Singapore), is a sovereign city-state and island country in Southeast Asia. Singapore's territory consists of one main island along with 62 other islets. Gained independence from Malaysia in (1965). After many turbulence now is a global commerce, finance and transport hub. Its standings include: the most "technology-ready" nation (WEF), top International-meetings city (UIA), city with "best investment potential" (BERI), third-most competitive country, third-largest foreign exchange market, third-largest financial centre, third-largest oil refining and trading centre and the second-busiest container port. The country has also been identified as a tax haven. (source: Wikipedia)
The symbol of the city - Merlion's is a hybrid which body represents Singapore's roots as a fishing village. Its head represents Singapore's original name, Singapura, or "lion city" in Malay.
We went there on January this year just for two days coz this was first stop in our one-month Asia trip. The weather didn't spoil us. It was cloudy, humid and hot but at least no rain. Not too hot though so it was a good weather for sightseeing.
The flight we've took from Greece landed very early in the morning so we had to walk around a bit. First we headed to Sentosa Island also called as The State of Fun. This is Asia's leading leisure destination and Singapore's premier island resort getaway. Located within 15 minutes from the central districts, the 500-hectare island resort is home to various themed attractions as: sandy beaches, resort hotels, a marina, beach and yacht clubs, adventure parks and historic displays - all reachable by bridge from mainland Singapore.
We've entered there to the S.E.A. Aquarium to explore the underwater life of more than 100,000 marine animals of over 1,000 species, across 50 different habitats. Each one of them as fascinating as the next. Aquarium is really big, the variety of animals huge. It is a perfect place to spend time with your kids.
In Singapore around 78% of the resident population is ethnic Chinese, 14% Malay and the remaining 7% ethnic Indian. Despite its small size, Singapore is home to 10 religions, living in a perfect harmony with each other. The city is divided into some districts where you can see people from main religions concentrated together.
Our hotel was in Hindu district, with all of this colorful streets, temples, curry and incense sent in the air.
When we were walking around we went to the Muslim quarter to see Masjid Sultan (Jawi: مسجد سلطان), or Sultan Mosque. Located at Muscat Street and North Bridge Road within the Kampong Glam. The mosque is considered one of the most important in Singapore.
On the surrounding streets you may find many souvenir shops and restaurants. Everything stays in a perfect harmony and order.
There is no chance for anybody to miss the most popular, most thrilling and energetic attraction of the city- GARDENS BY THE BAY!
This national garden is a showpiece of horticulture and garden artistry that presents the plant kingdom in a whole new way. Creators want to educate visitors while entertaining them with plants rarely seen in this part of the world, ranging from species in cool, temperate climates to tropical forests and habitats.
Gardens by the Bay is a nature park covering 101 hectares of reclaimed land in central Singapore, adjacent to the Marina Reservoir. It has 18 man-made colossal solar-powered "trees" between 25 and 50 meters tall, each loaded up with amazing vertical gardens. The evening lights show is something you cannot see anywhere else. It gives you some thrilling appreciation for Singapore's unique relationship with nature.
The park has three waterfront gardens:
Bay South Garden,
Bay East Garden (the largest - 54 hectares)
Bay Central Garden

Oh well - maybe next time !
Singapore maybe is expensive, but if you want and you try, you can make it for really not much. Lots of places have fabulous street food. But still stalls are concentrated into hawker centers and rated for hygiene, alleviating concerns many travelers have about subjecting their stomachs to unfamiliar street foods. We've eat in few places and all good!
One of them was of course China Town. While we were exploring Asia, we went to China Town in every city we've been visiting. Cheap souvenirs, street food and basically everything you want but probably never were even able to imagine ;)
Skyline of the city is so impressive and need to be photographed !
