The State Opera and the National Theatre
Our second night in Vienna involved a little bit more class and culture than our previous nights of rowdyness and partying. This time, it involved a visit to the National Theatre and an actual opera play in the world famous Vienna State Opera. The play we watched was La Tosca which was sung in beautiful Italian. The play is set in Rome at war, year 1800 and is about an opera singer, Tosca and her artist lover Mario Cavaradossi, who helps an opposition leader and garners the attention of the Chief of Police Scarpia who is madly in love with Tosca and will do anything to see her in his arms, including getting Mario out of the picture. A little bit more complicated than Love Island!
See how elegant it is inside the building as well as outside. A little treat for you, you're not normally allowed to take photos inside a play but I tried to sneak a shot in of Act 5 during the suicide of Tosca.

Stunning!!! I've been around this area but have never gone into it. I would love to see an opera there too. Must have been absolutely amazing.
Thank you so much :) They have very cheap shows if you line up about an hour before the show, like 3 euros as opposed to 60 euros. Get an opera ticket and you won't regret it!
Actually these states are excellent. The National Theater (Burgundy) is amazing. Your blog was great afterwards.

Hi @seethewords.sgp Lovely your post.
The Viennese Opera House is without a doubt one of the leading opera houses of the world and has been through a lot during its “life”. Certainly, lots of the big opera stars have played here. The history has a tragic beginning as the construction of monumental building of the “Ringstraße’” became a calamity for its two architects.
Due to deep foundation, the building resembled a “sunken crate”. Such criticisms finally made Eduard van der Nüll commit suicide and two months after August von Siccardsburge died of a heart attack. Unfortunately they did not live to see the big opening with “Don Giovanni” in 1869. The imposing building is characterized through its “Renaissance elbow style”.
