Tip from my sister (the photographer.. take a really big shot that gets everything in and then crop it... it works - makes a massive difference... all these little cheats I've found out photographers used. Sometimes what I imagine in my head as a beautiful arty shot.. looks completely differen.. actually mostly lol

I know what you mean. I do wildlife photography and spend a lot of time cropping and repositioning the subject to make it look right.
I've also spent hours at a location taking photos that I think are going to look amazing, and then I end up deleting them all in frustration.
