BACKGROUND

When I lived in the southern US, I worked for a company that had customers all over the world. That company sent me on a kind of "good will tour", to England, where we had three customers of high importance. My mother loves England and the royal BS, so she and my (now ex-) wife came along to do their thing. I worked, they got to go have fun.

It was a short trip, but it was fun.

So, let's see what the pictures will provide by the following categories:

Each of these links should take you to the sub-blog (is that a word?), and the page for the sub-blog should have a return to this page, so you can see all the things (except the last one).

Churches

Some house of worship in front of Big Ben

Westminster Abbey

Lies: Another kind of "church", this one for the gods of literature. The Globe Theatre where Mr. Spear Shaking became famous (or at least on this spot, I think the original theatre burned down)
Truth: I was mistaken about this building. Thanks to @steevc for commenting to point out that this is actually the History of Science Museum in Oxford.

Castles

The result of aeons of British taxes

This was back when Queen Elizabeth II was still alive. She must have been downtown for them to let us inside the walls.
DSCN0355.JPG

My only knowledge of these guys is that they are on the bottle of my grandparents' favorite gin. Their excessive consumption of gin might be why I don't like it.
DSCN0356.JPG

Some other place that the royal family "needs".

Bargate and Guildhall

Maybe the back side of Westminster Abbey?

The traitors' gate

One of the bridges across the River Thames

Another bridge across the River Thames. My (now ex-) wife was on a walking fury at this time. She walked on this pedestrian-only bridge while my mother and I sat on a park bench and enjoyed London oddities.

Food & Drink

A bar where we were able to sit outside and listen to people moan about American football.
DSCN0384.JPG

Not sure which bar this was, but the interior was really awesome.

We didn't get to go in this bar, but I sure would have loved to. The paintwork is awesome too.

Hotel Rooms

This was the coolest little hotel in the first town we stayed in, Abingdon.

Weirdness

As a mechanical engineer, I know what is happening here. Do you?
DSCN0367.JPG

The blue hand-truck gives it away.
DSCN0366.JPG

This was used as decoration outside the History of Science Museum. I found it very disturbing.

CONCLUSION

Like I said, this was a short trip. Hopefully you enjoyed some random photos from around southern England. There might be more hiding somewhere. If I find them, you'll be the first to know.

Should really post this into the pinmapple community as you may get a lot more viewers that way!

Yeah, I looked at that community, but none of these were done with the Pinmapple app, which makes them invalid.
Plus, to me at least, the Pinmapple app feels a little big-brother.
If I get to travel again, I'll look into it more. Thanks for the suggestion though. I love the feedback.

You may have got your pictures mixed up. What you call the Globe Theatre is the science museum in Oxford. I have been to a play at the Globe.

Hope you enjoyed your trip.

Oh dang, you're probably right. Thanks for the correction! I'll make that now.
