One of the most famous visits in Mallorca is Las Cuevas del Drach, in Porto Cristo (municipality of Manacor).

It is part of the network of coastal defense towers whose function was to point out the presence of Berber pirates on the coasts of Mallorca. It is reached by the road that accesses the caves, in a straight line to the coast. It is a beautiful landscape, at the ticket office they will tell you how to get there, it is very close, at the edge of the sea on a small cliff and with great views and assured photographic reportage.

It is recommended to wear shoes without heels, and with a sole that does not slip, because in some areas of the cave there may be moisture in the floor. There are steps, tightness and are not adapted for baby strollers or wheelchairs.

The caves have a horizontal development close to 2,400 meters in length and a depth, at its maximum level of 25 meters below the surface.

The caves hide inside a large underground lake, Lake Martel, considered one of the largest underground lakes in the world, where concerts of classical music are offered daily with pieces by Caballero, Chopin ... an unforgettable experience to end the visit to the caves .

If you feel like keeping a queue, after the concert you can take a short boat ride on the lake. The beauty of these caves is highlighted by the lighting projected and carried out by the engineer Carlos Buigas.

The exterior of the Caves is a shaded place where we can see the peacocks roam at ease.

Very close to the caves of the Drac is the Aquarium of Mallorca, quite small and with nothing too interesting. It contains more than 100 showcases with marine flora and fauna from different corners of the planet: fish from the barrier reef of Australia, tiny Brazilian fish, dreaded piranhas, Mediterranean fish ...

Las Cuevas are located on the outskirts of Porto Cristo, a town, natural and fishing port, with a beautiful but small beach, with fine sand and shallow waters. Old fishing village where you can find numerous hotels, bars, restaurants and a large commercial area.

In addition, Porto Cristo is a natural, fishing and sporting port that, despite modernization, has not lost its charm in its narrow streets. Particularly noteworthy are the less accessible coves and natural caves, such as the Drach and Hams.

Be careful not to confuse the caves of Drach with those of Hams, which are at the entrance of Porto Cristo going from Manacor and although they are not bad at all, people tend to like Drach's ...

Not in vain the visit to the Caves of Drach in Mallorca is an essential appointment of all tourists who come to the island, highly recommended, exciting and unforgettable.
