Everest Base Camp 12 days on the trail

in #travel7 years ago

In researching our trip to Everest Base Camp in Nepal we wanted a local company who knew the area. We came across Skyline Treks out of Kathmandu. There were many trekking companies to chose from and felt the most confident based on the reviews and his promptness. We started by flying from Kathmandu to the second most dangerous airport in the world, Lukla on a tiny plane.

The trip was my daughter Brenna graduation present from SMU, (pictured below) June 2016.

Our sherpa was named Nima and were very pleased with his knowledge of the mountain, the tea houses and the route. Myself being an old guy with two other mid-20's trekkers, he made me feel like I wasn't the slow guy. We found out that our trek with Nima Sherpa was his 85th trip to EBC. Now that is experience.

Other trekkers on the mountain chose to go it alone without the assistance of a Sherpa and they often had to ask directions or took a wrong route that ended up being longer or harder. Book with an experience guide so that you can enjoy your trip.

Our porter "BB" was a delight to have on the journey. He always was smiling and engaging during the evening in the tea houses. If you are looking to experience the rugged country of Nepal, I would highly recommend booking your trip through a local and experienced tour operator, you will be glad you did.
