Gyeongju is very old city. So it has plenty of the relics of various dynasties.
But Actually, dynasties in Korean history is not complicated, because each dynasty had lasted for long term compare to Japan and China.
Each dynasty had survived 500 or 1000 years over coming the challenges from in and outside.
But this long time reign of one dynasty looked not to helpful for historical dynamics.
In Gyeongju, there are several relics of later dynasty’s.
In this posting, I’d like to introduce you the Stone Ice Storage in Gyeongju.
There are lots of Stone Ice Storage preserved in various place in Korea.
Among them, Stone Ice Storage in Gyeongu was one of the best well preserved one.
Plus this stone ice storage is located on the palace wall of Shilla dynasty.
The palace well in Shilla dynasty has very specific feature. It was made like the shape of mountain.
It was not easy to identify the wall at first glance.
But you walk along the wall, you could recognize the wall was well organized.
Besides the scene around the wall was so beautiful, and the wall itself was a nice place to walk around.
Even though out side of water hazard was destroyed, the characteristics of geology and the structure of the wall was very well organized against the invasion of the enemy.
Interesting thing was the Stone Ice Storage was on the top of the wall.
It was curious that how they could keep ice until summer.
I looked around inside. There seemed nothing particular for me to find out the secret of keeping ice until summer.
Inside was built with stones.
One thing made me feel strange was the chimneys.
Why did this stone ice storage need the chimneys ?
If they’d keep ice, the chimneys were totally different matter in my eyes.
The chimneys would not be helpful to keeping the ice.
But the chimneys must be very useful in keeping the ice for a long time.
There might be a secret in the chimneys in preserving the ice for a long time.
Is there anybody to know this secrete ?
I am comforted with your posts, and can add knowledge, which i want to know for what the chimney is.
Nice ..
Beautiful views .. Well done to the pictures
Great post .. Thanks for sharing your experience..
whoa, thats cool!
Im just wondering, how long will the ice last before it melts esp during sunny days.
beautiful sunshine.
Maybe even though it would be very cold in the ice storage any warmth would rise and go out the chimney. That’s my guess.
Absolutely interesting post and amazing captures, really loved them. Significant ancient methods and practices have been very well thought out and wonderfully planned that too without any modern precision tools and technology, like nowdays.
beautiful
Very interesting. It's nice to know how human lived in the past through relics. As history enthusiast I really enjoy your post.
Wow, very impressive travel post again @slowwalker and very great photos! 👍 Keep up the nice work & Steem On!
Amazing photography
Interesting post good work keep it up
I think maybe instead of to keep ice cold it was the opposite a place for heating like a giant oven to cook meat and the top for the smoke to get out.
I see you don’t have a Steemit Profile Picture I made a contest post on the bottom is link that will teach you, then after you make yours feel free to enter the contest to create mine. here https://steemit.com/contest/@isteemithard/design-isteemithard-a-profile-picture-avatar-contest-12-winner-of-11
looks like a really cool place to visit. I'm also very curious on how they could keep ice cool until summer with out it melting.. the chimney has got me stumped too it has to have something to do with the chimney's but i can't see how that would make any difference... interesting mystery! lol

Very interesting history of the korea dynasty, the stone ice storage is very strong and uniqe, thanks for your sharing to us, greeting friendship from me @abialfatih in aceh indonesia, success always for you brother @slowwalker
The cold ice storage just like caves, are usually very cold on the inside and that's the reason why i could preserve and keep the ice for a very long time while the chimney functions as a protective tool against heat from external source from penetrating the stone ice storage.
한국 영화 바람과함께 사라지다에서 비슷한거봤었는데~ 경주에 이런게 있었군요. 신기하네요~~ 경주도 보면볼수록 더 매력적인곳 같아요~

Hola @slowwalker
Saludos y Gracias.
Well written Blog with many great pictures! Thanks for stopping by last time and keep it up @slowwalker
It's probably something the aliens told them!
I remember doing a temple stay just outside of gyeongju at bulguksa several years ago. It was an awesome yet terrible experience all at the same time. It was a 3 day/2 night stay, we had to be in bed by 9 pm each night and awoke at 4 am to climb the mountain to see the first sunlight and do the 108 bow worship.
On top of that we had to wash out or food bowls and clean them with a piece of kimchi and consume the excess as to teach giving thanks for nourishment. It was difficult and and challenging but something I will always remember. I have a new found praise for the monks that live this life.
Besides the occasional train through gyeongju or going to the waterpark there, I havent done much else, need to visit more often
The mounds hills, ditches and chimney chamber
like dolmens remind me of astronomical structures
found world wide. Timekeepers and navigation
uses.

great post. thanks for sharing.
Saya sangat suka dan senang membaca postingan @slowwalker tentang salah satu peninggalan sejarah Korea ini
It is incredible the quality of structure that is perceived in the photographs, a purely Oriental architectural style of a very distant dynasty. Excellent blog, thank you for sharing your travel experiences with your readers.
thanks for share this interesting article about The Wall Of The Shilla Palace. Reading the text, it was inevitable for me to remember the great Chinese wall.
About pictures, I think that they were well done. Congrats.
