Wonju Railroad Station And The Traces Of The Past

in #travel7 years ago

What kinds of feelings do you have about the railroad station ?

After finishing looking around the San Museum, I went to the railroad station to go back to my home.
It was fine weather.

The railroad stations always make me recall my childhood when my family left our hometown for better living conditions. It was my mom’s determination to move into Seoul from tiny small country side.
Mom thought there was no hope for educate and feed us.

Of course it was not easy living in Seoul. But my uncle, mom’s elder brother, helped us for settlement in this unfamiliar and cold hearted cosmopolitan city.

I still remember the moment when we took up the train. Our relatives and close acquaintances said good bye for us with tears. Looking that, I realized the separation was a sorrow.

So whenever I am looking at the railroad station, the feeling of separation in my childhood comes out.

Strangely enough, the railroad station of Wonju city looked like the station of my hometown.

It seemed that the surrounded stores and buildings have not been changed for the decades.

I was looking around the station. There was a water supply tower for the steam locomotives.
The steam locomotives had been disappeared for a longtime ago, they preserved the water supply tower as a kinds of the local relics. I was so glad to see that water supply tower.

There was a wagon cart on the railroad. It looked like being abandoned.
Loneliness was my feeling at seeing that train wagon and the weeds around the railroads.

Sitting at the station, I was in reminiscence of my childhood.

It was so nice to have such a melancholy time sometimes.

Sort:

A marginal place from all parts of the world.

Yes, that's right

Our family also used to travel with trains when we visited our grand parent's home once in a year in my childhood. I also have a lot of sweet memories with trains.

Yes, train indeed has pleasant and sad memory together

When I was just a child trains would bellow up its horns and I would hear it from our house considering that the train was a few hundred meters away. But the train now is long gone. Fortunately they will going to revive it and my prayer was to see our train go back into its original glory @slowwalker before I pass from earth because a train is a fascination not only for me but for most people.

Thank you so much for your comment.
the train is always in its glory in our mind

There's something about the sound of a train that's very romantic and nostalgic and hopeful.

This trip to a very beautiful place, korea is a place of very good scenery.
Good luck always for you.

@slowwalker,

What kinds of feelings do you have about the railroad station ?

Absolutely you remind my childhood via of your thoughts and photo clicks. I firstly picked up train of my 10 year school age. Then after I went lot of places through train.

I still remember the moment when we took up the train. Our relatives and close acquaintances said good bye for us with tears. Looking that, I realized the separation was a sorrow.

Above contexts deeply touched my heart coz I have same experience those days. Above loneliness rail roads remember Galle Railway station in Sri Lanka. Thanks for every you uploaded images still going to your home. Be safe friend.

I really want to visit Sri Lanka

Haven't visit Sri Lanka yet @slowwalker?

There is something cathartic about revisiting places that have resigned themselves to hazy distant memories. The world seems to slow down to a simpler pace like when we were young.

I guess rail is not as popular there as it once was?

because of other transportation

I see this station has memories you, picture you take very special, I enjoy the expanse of all this, @slowwalker.☺️

Thank you so much

Thank you. I grew up near trains! A great post.

It is wonderful, and there are other beautiful places as well in Korea. Natural beauty, I'm a big fan of this place.

And do not forget to visit Chiaksan National Park in Wonju, that is worth visiting. I'm attaching the picture here. Enjoy friends!chiaksan-national-park.jpg

Verycool for your place and about history im interested @slowwalker

I was at Wonju Train Station about two years ago on my way back from doing some camping in the nearby Ganhyun Gorge.
I really like the old train stations in Korea. They tend to have a lot of character. I plan on visiting a railway museum in Korea soon. Hopefully, it will have a lot of this charm. I wonder if future generations will feel the same about the modern train stations?

There are a lot of beauty in South Korea and I like it so much!

For me do not know I want to say about the feelings about the station of the Crete because in the place I do not cretan fire and I just see on television alone about the station.
but what I know will be built in the way of Crete..
Thanks you my friend..

Separation is indeed always a sorrow. I have to say the train station looks almost deserted in places and gives a melancholy feeling. Nice post.

Hi @slowwalker
I am a railway worker myself, but the business has changed a lot, the small traffic from small communities like farms etc. are no longer transported, now it is large block loads, thus all the small stations are deserted and dilapidated. I am quite surprised that the abandoned the wagon there with some infrastructure material on it (Concrete sleepers and rails). Here in South Africa the steel would disappear quite quickly as well as parts from the wagon to be sold as scrap metal.

I really want to visit here

I understand you perfectly ... Thanks to the courage of your mother, you have achieved very much. It is not known who you would be if you did not leave your village. The act of your mother deserves great respect. Good luck to you and Love.

Yes, my mom did great job and she is a great woman

Great story, an nice pictures! I love to ride the trains downtown!

Thank you so much

I love this kinda Dejavu feeling when you are in a new city but it feels like you've been here before
