Saying goodbye to Lisbon - for now

in #travel7 years ago

After almost two weeks of updating you on all the amazing art, tiles, museums and clothing lines of Lisbon, it's time to say goodbye to my Lisbon photo series, at least until I visit Lisbon again.

I've been home for a week now, and had to adjust to freezing point temperatures, but luckily the weather has been mostly without rain. The temperatures took a toll on my health though, so I stayed inside the house as much as possible. The contrast with spring temperatures in Portugal might have been too much?

What does Lisbon look like?

As I like to work in series in my photography, I often focus on details, and these details define how I experience the city, or even which routes I take. If I want to focus on street art, for example, I might just pin some known street artworks on a map and walk the city according to that.

So looking back at the pictures, I've shared a lot of street art and some other details as well. But how does Lisbon look like? Do you know that by seeing my short series? Or are you still wondering?

I took this picture from one of the hills in Lisbon, the one with Castello Sao Jorge on it. I think it pretty much sums up what Lisbon looks like: orange rooftops, white or yellow building fronts, and always water in sight.

It's the kind of picture I might normally not show on my blog, since I feel like it's a picture that's easy to take and less distinguishable from my other work. I believe my value as a photographer lies more in the focus on details, seeing and picturing things that others might miss.

I do, however, now take these pictures. As a starting photographer I only shot 'abstract' pictures and details, andeven though those are fun, I've learned I need some general moments and memories on my hard-disk as well. As I look at the picture above I remember sitting on a bench and just enjoying the kids playing on the field in the sun on a saturday. Those kind of feelings and memories are rarely captured in a detail of a building, for example.

If you never visited Lisbon before, I hope you had fun seeing my little stories and photo series! If you did visit Lisbon before I hope it was a feast of recognition or I was able to show you something you hadn't seen before.

I'm always looking for details and stuff to share with you all, so expect to see other photo series soon!

I love the photo where the sea meets the sky

Let me reassure you ... it's cold right now too in Lisbon. Maybe not when you sit outside in the sun BUT if you're sitting in the apartment without good heating, your fingers go numb. Hehe! But yes .. LISBON is incredible!

Lisbon looks absolutely gorgeous! And you've managed to take some lovely photos of it :) I would love to visit Lisbon and Portugal in general, I've never been in those parts of Europe before, so it was nice get a glimpse from your point of view! :)

Looking forward to what comes next!

I've never visited. It looks awesome though! I love that so many places have a view of the water. And there are orange trees there?! I think Lisbon is jumping up my list.

Yes! If you look at a map you see geographically Lisbon was built at an interesting spot! It's called 'City on the Seven Hills', and that basically means you have a lot of viewpoints and all streets go down, back to the water ;-) The orange trees were a nice surprise for me too! Hope you'll be able to visit it soon!

Aaaw i miss Lisbon too! Especially weather, since Germany is very cold right now

I feel ya, The Netherlands is cold now too!
Have you lived in Lisbon? You sound like you REALLY miss it, not just have visited it :-)

No. I was in Lisbon for the Steemfest2, for almost 2 weeks.

Ah! So cool! I wasn't yet on Steemit then I think. Would love to go to the next one :D

Oh Lisbon 😍

Has been a few years since my last visit but would love to come back, can't remember the place but I recall my favourite location I visited was the place with the castles, something on S?
