While I took a break before I went to meet some lovely Scottish cows on the beach, I had time to observe a few other lovely moments. One of them was a man with a dog, constantly looking to the sand in front of his feet, from time to time bending the knees to pick something up from the sand.
It's a great thing to do and a very mindful practice: looking, walking, observing, selecting stuff for keeping. It's exactly what I do as a photographer: looking, walking, observing, selecting images for keeping.
The Huntress
A few years ago I had to think of a 'character' I could dress up as for a festival. I have never liked dressing up, nor do I understand being a big fan of something/someone so much you would actually want to look like that person.
So I had no idea what to dress up as.
The one thing I fully accept as being 'me' though, is 'the observer'. But how do you dress up as 'an observer'?
It was only when I realized I often try to go up in the environment, be as invisible as possible in order to go unnoticed while 'collecting my images' I noticed the similarities those behaviors have with a hunter.
So, for the festival, I became a huntress. It's my character of choice, the one that actually overlaps with my everyday life. I have no preference for being a fast or a slow huntress. I'm just observing, walking, looking, collecting. Me and the beach scavenger are, in essence, the same.

Yes, I love the tranquility of this posts. I’m jealous that you exude it so well. I’m a city dweller and that’s the scene I’m usually exploring. I’ll go out with a huntress mindset next time — seems very a very intentional but peaceful experience.
And maybe it comes with the added bonus of finding parking downtown easier?? 😆

I find photography meditative, you can try this in the city too (I'm living in the city as well...) - just keep your eyes open and focus on your breathing. Or do like me and intentively look through a lens (or your phone) to the city :-) Enjoy!

I wonder what you used, as a huntress, to carry all your finds? There is so much in the outdoors to see and collect!
All my finds are kept on a 32 GB memory card! Not too exciting :-)

This is a good image, the huntress. In every day life I am an observer, a watcher, an empathiser, but I also have a performer side who loves dressing up and being watched.
