Steemians
Just returned from a 9 day vacation to St. Thomas. First, it was less crowded than expected. We didn't realize we were travelling during the off-season. The locals say that tourists have a misconception that summers are blazing hot and unbearable. The truth- weather was pretty good. Most days we had a cloud and it was not bad at all with mid 80s peak temperature.
Will start with a few tips-
- Rent a car. Taxis charge by the person and if you are in a crowd it will get expensive very soon.
- If you are looking to do grocery shopping, its ridiculously expensive- so get all packaged food at K-Mart
- Jewelry can be bought at great deals compared to inland usa- so dont hesitate to shop for diamonds in the Little Switzerland area. My wife got a 1.2 ct earrings G color , SI clarity for 1450$ at Goldmine. The same one was selling at the airport for 5K$
- Most restaurants are outdoors and lot of mosquitoes at night. Inspect spray wont work. Plan for the few indoor restaurants for dinner.
- Souvenir shopping is best at Mountain Top.
- St. Johns doesn't need more than a day and is less busy. Unless you want to be left alone there is enough in St. Thomas to do
- Beach resorts are great. We stayed at Wyndham Elyssian Beach Resort.
