Standing on a quay in Helsinki I thought that the best journeys are those made spontaneously. And so here am I, hello Sweaborg, a Russian fortress lost in the past.
Steemit has learned me a very important lesson: do now or never and so I took a ferry and went to an island called Sweaborg. I simply liked the name but what I got for the name overperformed all my suppositions.
Sweaborg is a MUST if you come to Helsinki, a place where you seak-of-stone-and-traffic-soul can take a break and drink a cup of harmony and peace. The return ticket to the archipelago costs 10 euros only and what you get for the sum is simply astonishing. First of all, this is the inspiring view of the city from water, enormous ships and wind playing with your hair.
Then, the islands themselves. There is a fortress situated on five islands, some beautiful and old buildings, a wharf and a quay. And there are also rocks cutting the unsafe and challenging surface of the Baltic Sea.
Time has stopped here. Even the tourists stepping on the body of the sleeping stone beast cannot make it be awake and move. The beast is not dead, it is simply sleeping as all its battles are over and the cuts on its skin are cured. The island used to belong to Russia and the "Russian hand" can easily be seen in the distances between the buildings and in the way they built the fortress itself. Long corridors lead from one part of the island to another that makes you feel so small and insecure.
There was a place that made me feel that I was in the right place. You know, that awesome feeling when you don't even want (and you basically can't) move, whe you stay ar sit stuck in one place and feel so full and happy. That is what I felt today on the islands, listening to the songs of the deep blue sea.
I fell in love with this place, I did. You know that romantic feeling in the very beginning of relations when you want to spend as much time with the person as possible and can't give up thinking about your new love. That seems that I am dating with Sweaborg, you know. That was a breath of fresh air, a quit from the stone monumental city to the native and charming archipelago.
The warm rocks became for me the softest bed ever and the salty air cured all the bad thoughts. I miss so much in my mother-country but this place where time has stopped made me forget about all the problems. Being frightened with the unbelievable power of the sleeping giant the bad thoughts hid in the corners of the mind and are still there.
For all those who are sick wrom the stifling city and the buzz from traffic: nature is the best tratment ever. And if you once happen to come to Helsinki - remember me, buy a return ticket and sail to freedom.
That gives much more than you even can imagine.
Happy and relaxed after the awesome day and eager for new adventures,
Anastasia
