The late great Luang Phor Koon was known as the miracle monk and Thais believed he had supernatural powers from the astral realms. He was the abbot of Wat Ban Rai for decades, where he practiced the art of takrut insertion and amulet consecration.
Luang Phor Koon, who passed May 16, 2015, was one of the most famous monks in amulet consecration and countless people travel to Thailand in search of his amulets.
These amulets may range from $5 USD to $35,000 USD with the worth depending on the edition, print, and supernatural powers the amulets harness. The supernatural incantations on his amulets and alike items are consecrated to empower the wearer with wealth & great luck (law of attraction), Mettā (impeccable charm & loving kindness), and fearlessness (repelling of evil spirits).
One of Luang Phor Koon's greatest accomplishments was his journey of empowerment where he walked through Thailand, into and through Laos, into and through Cambodia and back into Thailand. Although he was a young monk during this legendary journey, he was already known and famous for his supernatural power connecting the spirit realm. Villagers throughout these 3 countries received countless acts of selflessness as Luang Phor Koon help build villages, schools, and temples during this journey of empowerment. The specific route and documentation of this journey are on display in the main museum at Wat Ban Rai in Dan Khun Thot, Thailand.
The Mystical Wihan
A temple is usually a religious structure that is dedicated to Buddha and his teachings and houses the elements of monkhood. A Wihan is a religious structure dedicated to praising what English may call "Gods of the Astral Realms" according to Hindu beliefs.
The term Hindu is an English word meant to refer to all spiritual beliefs from India dating back the last 15,000 years.
When my spiritual journey through the dark shadows began 15 years ago, the beautiful and astonishing Wihan wasn't finished yet. When I arrived at Wat Ban Rai to repay my karmic debt to Luang Phor Koon, the Wihan was in the beginning stages and everything was happening so quick. It would all seem like an unrealistic dream if my whole family wasn't there to experience most of it with me. I hadn't been back since I received my last takrut insertion in my right arm, so I was excited to tour the Wihan of Wat Ban Rai.
I was accompanied by the Mrs. and my play brother who both also have takrut insertions from Luang Phor Koon. Being we're all his disciples, we always start at the main museum out of respect for our spiritual mentor.
Rereading about his accomplishments amaze me every time because, after the journey of empowerment, he still continued building hospitals and schools.
These accomplishments, detailed history of him and detailed history of his consecrated amulets are displayed impressively in the main museum. I always enjoy this part of the visit because it reminds me of my first time, every time.
We reached the Wihan after a 300-meter walk from the main museum and the artistic exterior already had me in awe. The portrayal of some of the creatures in the astral realms was detailed and artistically bold. The vision of the protective Taurus was vicious and physical. The exterior captured a full spectrum of the battle between good and evil through the astral planes with creatures representing all sides.
The spirit of the horse seemed like its strength was running through the heavenly skies.
As you walk through the entrance of the Wihan, you're greeted by giant artistic masterpieces. These paintings are giant in size and capture the many spectrums of spirituality. The purpose of the Wihan for civilians is to reach the top and admire the view of the town.
The walkway upward scales the sides of the structure in a spiral motion and during this walk up, there are amazing paintings that seem to empower some of the donors.
When we reached the top, I jumped on one of the cement blocks and looked over the town with admiration. We stayed there for a few long moments enjoying the fresh air of Dan Khun Tot and after numerous pictures, we started heading back down the Wihan. I couldn't help but stop and admire some of the sculptures on the exterior of the Wihan.
The artistic details capture an essence of power and a fear of the unknown.
We went to praise and pay homage to the main Buddha statue at Wat Ban Rai's main hall. Being in the main hall again brought back countless memories from countless trips during the years of my spiritual journey. After an intense feeling of contentment, we visited the holy fountain of Wat Ban Rai to wash off the sins of yesterday. The holy fountain has 12 outlets with the animals of Chinese astrology and visitors go to their respective animal. The holy water gathered is then taken to the sinks next to the holy fountain and used to rinse the hands, top of head and face.
It felt spiritually overwhelming being back at Wat Ban Rai paying homage to my first spiritual mentor and I was honored for every second of it.
A Great Ending to a Spiritual Day
We arrived back in Korat from Dan Khun Thot and stopped to freshen up before heading to one of the city's more trendier restaurants. The restaurant made some great classic Thai Esarn food along with many great fusion dishes.
One of the standouts for me was the sashimi salmon wrapped raw shrimps which were topped with spicy Thai seafood sauce. The other dishes were perfect for dinner and also for the drinks afterward.
The restaurant had a variety of finger foods to help us not get too drunk during our visit.
I can't ever remember having a not so great trip to Nakhon Ratchasima and this one was no different. When I say I left a piece of my heart, I'm never joking and can't wait to make it back for another spiritual journey.
