To the Budapest Castle District

in #travel2 years ago

It was a beautiful, sunny autumn morning and the first day of our official tour, which was a free day. With a fellow tour member we decided to walk to the famed Castle District on the other side of the Danube and see what it had to offer.
The anticipation of exploring this smallish area of grand residences, churches and museums etc had us champing at the bit.
A casual stroll from our hotel, through the city and to the edge of the Danube brought us to the Széchenyi Chain Bridge. Constructed in 1849 and at 375 meters, a spectacle in itself and is one of the gateways for tourists to visit the Castle District.
We paused on the city side of the brige to admire the grandness on the other side as well as check out the restaurant / party boats parked on the rivers edge waiting for their evening passengers.
Making our way across the bridge, stopping frequently to admire the view up and down the river and take photos we eventually made to the other side and started our ascent to the district street level.
With a brief look back down the river and to where we had come from, we could only but admire the sheer beauty of Budapest and its environs. After resting from the short but steep walk up, we decided it was time to continue our mission of exploring this magical area to seek out what treasures it held.
