We bought a Mavic Pro Drone!!

in #travel7 years ago

We took our latest addition on a hike to the highest waterfall on the North Island of New Zealand- Wairere Falls. It's nestled into the Kaimai ranges in the Bay of Plenty and is a really cool hike! Take a squiz at the footage we got, would love to hear your thoughts :) Make sure you put it into 4K quality if you screen allows!

Wow!! New Zealand is incredibly beautiful.

It sure is :)

wooooooow

That's what I say everytime I see the footage we get haha :P

oh that looks really nice, I guess I will save some money for these machines :)

Thanks :) I think it's worth every cent!

No 4k to do it justice :( great shots by the way.. how long did it take you to get the right shots and all?

Thank you! We did A LOT of flying in the backyard to try and figure it out before our first trip to the falls. There's still so much to learn and we did stuff up a lot of the footage we got but still managed to get some good stuff too :) The battery only lasts for 25ish mins so you've got to try and be quick once it's up there.

Nice one! Was thinking of getting a drone at some point for my trips up in the mountains.

You should for sure, it's so cool seeing where you are from a different perspective :)

Yeah that's what I'm thinking. Good part for me is the technology is coming along really fast and improving whilst I save up to buy one.

Very interesting place where you've been and wonderful video!!!

Thank you :)

This is amazing, I've always wanted to travel there too.

Thanks :) I didn't even know there was a waterfall there, let alone the highest on the North Island haha! Well worth the hike.

Is it anything like the Hawaiian islands or is better? I've always wanted to visit, did you go see hobbit town!?

It's very amazing! I have no words!
Also see my post! You will like it! https://steemit.com/food/@bugavi/wow-it-s-appel-from-bugavi-chocolate-in-it-negative-and-normal-effect

Thanks :) That looks yum!!

A hardware is one thing. But the capturing and editing skill is even more impressive. Have you used other drones? How do they compare to Mavic? I am looking to buy one too.

Thankyou :) My boyfriend is the mastermind behind the capturing and editing. We haven't used other drones but we researched like mad about the Mavic Pro before we purchased it. Because we travel so much we need compact gear and it folds up quite small- no bigger than a water bottle!! So before the mavic pro was released there was really no way we could travel with a drone. The camera on it is unreal too.

Stunning! Bet it looks even more beautiful in person. Will have to put this on our must see list next time we are in the area. Great job! :-)

Thanks! It was a very beautiful hike and a very rewarding view from the top :)

Just amazing, thank you for sharing this!
Nature is beautiful!

Glad you enjoyed it! :)

That is awesome, great flying!

Thank you :)

SICK. Ah, I want to buy a drone so bad haha but I haven't been able to convince myself to make the investment. Was it difficult to learn to navigate the drone around? Also what editing software are you using? Thanks for sharing -especially a New Zealand vid. I did a study abroad around the south island and man, if there's anywhere I'd live forever NZ is it. Have a good one!

I don't think you'd regret the decision to buy one! It does takes a little getting used to - just heaps of playing around in the backyard to begin with. The controller is just 2 joysticks kind of like on a playstation controller so it's not too hard. We are still learning all the ins and outs, there are A LOT of settings to play with but the flying part is relatively easy. The video edits are done in Adobe Premier Pro. Glad you enjoyed the video! Oh how cool, bet you had a wicked time. We plan to spend about 2 months travelling the South Island next year- pretty excited!

If you don't mind me asking, how much was yours and where did you find it? That's awesome about your trip next year! So Jealous.

I think it was around $1800AUD with a spare battery, it was realllllllly hard to find! They were out of stock everywhere for ages, we ended up getting it from a store in Brisbane, Australia.

Gotcha. One day I will have one.. haha until then I'll definitely be checking out your vids. Thanks for sharing, come say hey whenever!

Breathtaking footage, but...

... am I the only one who's spooked like hell at the idea of being spied on by these things? Especially since they're only going to get smaller/cheaper/more powerful in the future.

Thanks :) Yeah, I know what you mean..but they'll have to work on making them a hell of a lot quieter because they are pretty noisy at the moment, impossible to sneak up on someone that's for sure. Plus there are lots of flying restriction zones and you aren't allowed to fly them everywhere. If you try to fly in a restricted zone the GPS on it picks up where you are and limits your heights and other settings. I'd say that it will just get more difficult to use in certain places.

That's something, at least. My worry is when drones are micro-engineered down to the size of a house fly, and equipped with x-ray vision and a high-powered microphone. Privacy is becoming a dim and distant memory :(

thats amazing, was this the first time you used the drone ever or just the first hike?

Thank you :) It was just the first hike we took it on, lots of flying in the backyard beforehand :)

Great shots!

Just ordered a drone myself, now checking out steemit for learning things. Just saw your video from the next country on my travellist. Got any tips for flying with a drone and maybe som tips from NZ? :)
