My Two Cents on Airports - the Good, the Bad and the Ugly

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

I’ve got a love-hate relationship with airports. As I am currently sitting at Sola Airport in Stavanger, Norway, I thought I’d write a short post about what I think about airports.

I love the feeling an airport gives me and I love being excited about what’s to come. Being at an airport usually means that I'm visiting a new destination and that's always exciting.
I love people-watching too! I look at people and I try to guess where they are going and why they're going there.

Remember how I promised myself to never travel to somewhere I've been before, a while back? Well, I'm still going strong. (Except for Sweden where I've got to go back because I work from there sometimes.)

Airports are fun, exciting and a fascinating place.

But...

I don’t like:

Waiting

Do I really have to explain this one? Endless waiting. Waiting for people, waiting for food, waiting for the security check, waiting for slow people in the security check and the list goes on and on.

The food

The food is usually expensive, dull, not fresh and straight up horrible.
Maybe this is a Scandinavian thing because I've had good or okay food at international airports.

The stress

The stress of finding your gate, the stress of not having enough time for running to your connecting flight, the stress of holding back and not kicking and screaming at the slow people in the security check. The stress of eating horrible food. The stress of carrying a lot of stuff everywhere.

Don't get me wrong, I love to travel. This blog is basically 80% traveling.
And I'm super grateful for the opportunity to travel for work too.

What do you like and dislike about airports?

I hate airports too, I particularly dread the flight itself, the whole process is a nightmare though! Teleportation booths are long overdue!

Ah, I enjoy the actual flying. But not everything leading up to it. Ha ha. I know!!! Can you try to fix that?

Are those ants on top? Just asking, I've never seen that kind of topping before.

Hahahha! It's herbs! Not ants.... :p

looks very tasty and delicious food ..greetings and have a nice weekend

It looks better than it tasted. The bread was dry and the spread tasted weird. Haha! Thank you, but the weekend is over. Ha ha. ;)

Airports are terrible! So much waiting, and nothing exciting to do at all. However, it's a good opportunity to write a post or two for Steemit ;)

I know :( Not a lot of exciting stuff to do here, but ver thankful for free WIFI! Any ideas on what I should write about? Maybe I'll do one more post.

Free Wifi is better than most airports! Sorry, I don't have any suggestions. I'm having problems with finding topics for my own posts these days, so I don't have any suggestions to spare right now :P

I actually like airports. Looking at the people and planes, eating food - which can be good even in Norway, as always you just have to find the right vendor. Sitting down reading a book while people hurry along. I think the trick is to have enough time to enjoy the moment and not getting stressed out.

I like them too, there are just a couple of things that annoy me about them. But I think I get easily stressed..... Ha ha.

Have a nice trip
Very good

My own 2 cents about airport: once, in Athens, I ordered a capuccino in a MacDo for 1€, on my way to Santorini, topped with a charming foam drawing. In Santorini, the same cost me 5 times that and without even being better or more cared for. Just for the view. I don't know if that says sthg about McDo, airports or Santorini, but that's what your post reminded me of ^^

I HATE AIRPORTS!!! We get checked/stripped so much that it takes a toll on your mental health! I always manage to lose crap at Airports...Recently, I had the worst experience ever at the Beijing Airport. I missed my flight and needed to go to a hotel. Nobody could speak any English at all. I tried telling people "I need a HOTEL"!! It took me 8 HOURS to find someone who understood! I literally walked around helplessly for 8 hours!

I like airports cuz of the architecture. All that I have been to have been amazing and different. I can't think of something I hate, yet 😃

My suggestion to you while waiting open the steamer tap and just use it it will utilise your time and you will never get bored.

definitely the waiting part too... but once you're up in the air, its all good :)

Travelling is always fun! I like the basic thing you post with us. Would love to see other too
