Wat Chedi Luang Worawihan is considered a beautiful and ancient temple located in the centre of Chiang Mai city. It was built over 600 years ago.
Wat Chedi Luang was considered the administrative center of the Lanna Kingdom in the ancient days.
Currently, Wat Chedi Luang has many interesting things to see such as Chedi Luang, rubber tree, Nagas, and other sculptures, which reflect the beliefs of our ancestors from the past until present.
The highlight of Wat Chedi Luang Worawihan is the Chedi Luang which is an ancient pagoda with a height of approximately 80 meters, a square base, and a width of 60 meters on each side.
It is considered the tallest pagoda in the North of Thailand and is also one of the most important pagodas in Chiang Mai.
There are 28 elephant statues surrounding the Chedi Luang. The elephant statues are believed to make the city stronger and bring prosperity and peace to the city; i.e. enemies will not dare to invade the city due to the names of the elephants.
Apart from the Chedi Luang, Phra Viharn of this temple is also magnificent.
In front of the entrance to the Phra Viharn, there is a beautiful Naga staircase with its tails intertwined to form the archway of the Phra Viharn.
This pair of Naga is an ancient work of art and is considered to be the most beautiful Naga.
