Fort Sumter, where the Civil War began, occupies an important place in the middle of the entrance to Charleston Harbour in South Carolina. To get there, one must take a boat ride. It is a beautiful trip, capped off by the chance to see this historic treasure. As ours was the final visit of the day, the flag was lowered for folding and storage until the next day.
