Insane. Iceland. 📷🇮🇸 |ep1| "The most unpredictable days of my life caused by the elements"

Last week I froze my ass off in Iceland in order to cool down from a 10-week internship at the oncology department. 🏥
In this first episode I will show you the first days of my diverse experiences in this inspiring island. It's a place in which Mother nature is the boss, and that has become utterly clear during all days of this trip. 🌬 I thought to do less exact writing and leave more to your imagination for this post series since Iceland cannot be described in words. This means more pictures, less text. 💭
I invite you to click on them in order to see the shots in full resolution. This series could be summarized with:

"I just got back from the most diverse and unpredictable 5 days of my life"

The voyage out

Being in an airplane, no matter how rudimentary it actually is nowadays, will always strike me as something magical. We were never meant to go up that high and have views that impressive. 🌥
When I would allow the emotions experienced during a flight to get to me the way as it should, I could literally be crying, of that I am certain. There is pure beauty from the moment you take off to the moment you land. An ever-changing scenario viewed from a tiny window in a chuck of metal moving through the sky at +500km/h. ✈
Since I had to still had a week to spent with the people surrounding me, I decided to contain myself. What I found extremely interesting is that there are people that are 100% fine with not having a windows seat and care only to watch a movie on the entertainment system. Not me. 🤔

Below you see the pictures I took during the flight from The Netherlands to Iceland.
A 3 hour flight.

This is the first shot of Iceland I took. It already shows the amazing and most common combination of colors I encountered throughout my trip. Blue, white, black and brown 🎨

All frames above are shot from at least two kilometers high. The last one really seems to be shot at 50cm if you ask me. It's intriguing to me to see how scale doesn't matter in abstract art. 😊

The first days in Iceland

It is clear the moment you land in Reykjavik Keflavik, that you are not in control of life here. One basically loses means you lose control to the elements of what you thought your trip will be like.. We landed in insane conditions of heavy wind and snow. Lucky for us we went to the Blue lagoon immediately after landing to do some serious warming up. A trip that actually did happen as planned.
The below three shots are looking way to gorgeous in companion of the other two ✌️

All shot with a 50mm Canon FD lens @2.8 on my Sony A7II

The water of the famous blue lagoon is about 40 degrees centigrade. Combine this with the surroundings being -4 degrees and it becomes an oasis of heat and relaxation. Also getting out of it is not the easiest thing to do. 😂
The water has this sick milky blue color due to a specific mineral that can be found in Iceland due to it being a very active volcanic island 🏝.

I must say, I am super jealous as Iceland is on the top of my list of places to visit!

It's seriously other-worldy, let me know if you go due to the weather I am quite the Reykjavik expert atm.

It rocks!

What a great way to start your trip to Iceland! The blue lagoon is a natural spa, oh lalaaaaaaaa! Enjoy and keep the pictures coming. I often watch Bjork videos to remind myself of the beauty of Iceland :)

There is sooo much photography out there on Iceland, it is just too beautiful! And the lagoon secretly is not natural at all, its cooling water that was used to gain electricity from the natural vulcanic activity.

t.

Oh really? That is interesting! And there I thought it was natural!

Most do. I was kind of sad when finding out, the warmth made up for that though lol

t.

Ok, personally I would also go there. First, because I always wanted it and find it to be an amazing chunk of land. Second, because we are approximately the same temperature....
Photos are great, but i still don't get it why would you like to go there, instead for example somewhere nice, warm and relaxing... LOL

Haha, well it's the insane nature that got me to visit it!

In every day life everything is in control, here you lose it to mother nature. IT ROCKS

t.

Iceland seems wonderful place. Literally Freezing the *** but worth it. It is also winter here in our region and day before yesterday the winter games started as it snowed late this winter. Freezing temperatures but the Cold is worth it.

The Pictures are just awesome, be it cloud shots, The Ocean and the rocky beach (loved the contrasting line of tide between the duo) , or other cold watery shots.

Love your Work. :)

Great to read your thoughts once again M!

I agree, sometimes we just have te endure some serious pains in order to creat.
