That morning I got to the Vatican very early to beat the crowds. First I went up to the dome of St Peter’s Basilica, then decided to explore the roof. These statues are almost six meters high. From right to left we have St James the Elder, St John the Baptist, Christ the Redeemer, St Andrew, St John the Evangelist. St James the Younger, St Bartolomew and St Simon. You can see that the years have taken their toll., but they were restored in the 1980’s. There is a great view of Rome from up here, and the bird on the cross can attest to that.
